4 General Types of Acne Explained

Hi all - I work in dermatology and I'm frequently asked about different types of acne. I thought this infograph would help many of you looking for this same information.

There are 4 general types of Acne:

  1. Open - Blocked follicle with sebum (oil) and dry skin within an open follicle site. 
  2. Papules - An inflamed, red bump with sebum, dry skin and bacteria.  
  3. Closed - Blocked follicle with sebum and dry skin within a closed follicle site. 
  4. Pustules - A papule with pus that creates a white head with surrounding redness.
