Breast Reduction - Uneven Breast
Having breast reduction into 2 months, I'm exited and nervous. My PS says can not guarantee a cup size or even breasts! That's normal? Please help!
There is no universal cup size, so you may be different sizes in different brands of bras. So although your PS cannot guarantee a bra size, he/she can probably give you an estimate based on your size now, your desired size after, and the realistic planned outcome. You can ask him/her to give you an idea of what he thinks you might become. It can be a range if he/she doesn't want to give you a specific cup size. Just talk to him/her about your concerns. Best of luck!

Breast reduction is a great procedure for those with excessively large breasts. As plastic surgeons, we do not generally deal with breast cup sizes because different bra companies measure that differently. We deal with grams and symmetry. That is why you PS cannot guarantee cup size. You should as clearly as possible articulate how large or small you want to go so he/she has a sense as to how much tissue to remove. You also need to be aware that no two breasts are ever completely symmetric - we say they are supposed to be sisters not twins. That said, we want them to be sisters not cousins either. When you leave the OR, they should be as symmetric as possible. But then the healing process begins, and they can heal with asymmetries. Usually the resulting asymmetries are slight. But if they are greater, then sometimes you may need to undergo a revision procedure to make them more "twin-like". Just part of the process.
