Can I do normal exercise after a Brazilian Butt Lift?
I’ve been thinking a lot about getting a Brazilian Butt Lift. If I go through with it, will I be able to return to normal exercise or will I be restricted to special routine? If I’m spending the money, I want to make sure I don’t do anything afterwards that could impact the effects of the surgery.

Exercise after a Brazilian Butt Lift can actually enhance your butt lift results. The key is to avoid engaging in any strenuous workouts for approximately three months after your surgery so you don't compromise the outcome. After this postoperative period, you are able to return to any form of exercise you choose.
During a butt lift, fat is harvested from carefully selected parts of your body and grafted to the buttocks. Approximately 60% of this fat will establish a blood supply in the buttocks, while the other 40% will be reabsorbed into the body.
Once the fat cells have established a blood supply they will remain in the buttocks long term. However, many surgeons recommend that patients avoid strenuous training for several months as it may impact the healing or damage the blood supply to the grafted fat cells.
Plastic surgeons have their own recommendations regarding when it’s safe to return to exercise and the types of fitness programs that patients should undertake. Most surgeons encourage patients to avoid any form of exercise with the exception of gentle walking for the first three weeks after surgery.
After three weeks of walking and rest, you can engage in gentle body workouts that tone the butt muscles, using equipment such as ankle weights or strength bands, building up your butt fitness gradually.
After three months, squats, lunges, P90X-type exercises that work the major muscles can really improve your results, developing muscle that projects the buttocks even further and helping to enhance the effects of surgery. Workout DVDs such as Cardio Axe are great ways to keep toning and building muscle in your butt and legs. Moreover, these workouts can also address other problem areas, such as saddlebags on the outer thigh.
In addition to focusing on exercises that sculpt the butt, make sure you also perform exercises that focus on the upper body, core and legs: a slim and strong waist and toned legs help to better show off the results of a butt lift, and give you a beautiful beach body.
You should also be aware of the effects of weight loss or gain following a Brazilian butt lift. Ideally, you should be close to your perfect weight when you undergo surgery. Dramatic weight loss following the procedure will negatively affect your results. The fat cells will shrink when you lose weight, or conversely, expand when you gain weight.
I suggest you schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon experienced in performing butt lift surgery. He or she will be able to talk you through the procedure and what you can expect with respect to recovery and your postoperative exercise regime.

While it is important to wait about six weeks before returning to your normal exercise routine, exercising the glute muscles after a Brazilian butt lift does not adversely affect the outcome of the procedure. In fact, a workout program that includes butt exercises will only enhance the results of your BBL procedure. The increased size of the muscles produced by your butt workout will push the grafted fat outward, which will produce more projection and will enhance the shape of the buttocks.
Make sure that your post-BBL workout regimen includes exercises to shape the entire lower body, including the inner and outer thighs. Running is a great way to achieve this while also working out your glutes and improving your overall health. Uphill running in particular helps isolate these areas. Squats are another great way to enhance your results. Plus, your regimen should also include some weightlifting to address the upper body.
Your workouts will not cause you to lose fat; the fat cells simply become smaller. If you regain weight, the fat cells will become bigger. But be careful not to overdo it. The idea that diet and exercise compromise the results of a Brazilian butt lift is a myth. You will able to go back to your pre-Brazilian butt lift workout regimen and not be required to follow a special routine.
The fat that is moved to the buttocks is a graft. Grafts don’t just go away on their own. While some of the fat will be reabsorbed by the body, this is not related to your exercise program. The fat that is not reabsorbed will have a stable blood supply and will be there for the long haul.
However, what diet and vigorous exercise will do is reduce the size of the fat cells. They are like balloons that expand and contract depending on weight gain and loss. But again the actual number of fat cells will not change, regardless of how much exercise you do. Fat loss resulting from cardio training or dieting may reduce the size of the buttocks, but any reduction will be proportional to loss in other areas of the body.
While exercising after your Brazilian butt lift is encouraged, you should keep it to home workouts and avoid vigorous exercise for about three months. This allows the fat cells to heal and settle in. After three months you can slowly begin to build up your regimen. Once you reach your max, the muscle that is built may increase the size of your buttocks.
A good post Brazilian butt lifting workout could include exercises such as lunges, squats and other exercises that build up the buttocks. Also, don’t focus solely on the buttocks and work evenly on each side of your body. Make sure to include exercises that strengthen your core as well as your legs through exercises that strengthen both your right and left knees.

Many plastic surgeons recommend that their Brazilian butt lift patients take it easy for at least three weeks after surgery. During this time, the grafted fat cells are creating a blood supply. Any overly vigorous workout during this time can leave the transferred fat cells vulnerable to damage, and the death of cells may lead to compromised results. Taking care of your body and avoiding any undue stress in the first three to four weeks is vital, so exercises that overexert the buttock muscles are best avoided.
That being said, you can absolutely return to normal exercise once your surgeon has indicated that it’s safe to do so. Every plastic surgeon has his or her own set of specific postoperative guidelines based on their experience and how the patient is healing, and your surgeon will outline what to expect during each stage of your recover and the kinds of exercises that are most appropriate.
You should also listen to your own body and energy levels before you return to regular exercise. When you do feel ready to resume your regimen, exercises such as weight lifting, the triangle training workout, and squats are essential to enhancing the results of surgery and building tone and leg definition.
However, be mindful to not over-exercise. Loss of body fat will impact on the prominence of your buttocks. Ideally, you should be at or close to your perfect weight before undergoing Brazilian butt lift surgery.

As to your specific question, usually exercise is restricted in the first 3-4 weeks, with particular care paid to avoiding excess pressure on the buttocks (no sitting for 10 days except to toilet and eat, for instance), use of special pillows, etc. However, in the LONG run, you should be able to do ANY exercises you want once fully healed (usually after several months).

It is best to wait until six weeks after your Brazilian butt lift (BBL) before returning to your normal exercise routine. However, the exercise program itself should not affect the results. Any fat lost through your workout routine will be proportional; weight loss after Brazilian butt lift will not cause the fat grafted to the buttocks to go away more so than any other area of the body.
