Can I Drive After a Tummy Tuck?

How soon can I get back behind the wheel after a tummy tuck? Are pain pills going to influence my driving ability? I have to say that I'm a very good driver (even my husband says so), and I'm eager to resume my normal activities. Unfortunately, it's only been a week since I had the procedure and I'm still not able to make any sudden movements without intense pain. So I guess "very soon" isn't the answer, right?

Yes, it’s too soon to start driving now. Most people are able to start after two weeks as long as your surgeon says it’s OK and as long as you are off narcotic pain medicine. The best advice is t keep in close contact with your surgeon so you can get the proper recommendations from the person who did your procedure.

One week post abdominoplasty surgery is definitely too soon to drive. As well, you should NOT drive while on narcotic pain medication. Be sure to attend your follow up appointment with your plastic surgeon and get his or her okay before driving alone. No matter how good a driver you are, you do not want to jeopardize your healing.
