Can I get a male breast reduction with an areola reduction?

Is it common to get an areola reduction at the same time as getting a male breast reduction? I would love to do both together so that I don’t have to go through the whole process of having surgery all over again. I would also like to know if it’s safe to have both together. Are there any possible complications I should be concerned about?

Good news!  For most guys, an areolar reduction is unnecessary if the gynecomastia surgery is done correctly.  The chest skin and areolar skin will tighten significantly during the course of gyne surgery in the average case.  Just imagine a balloon with a circle drawn on it.  Let some of the air out and the circle's diameter will have diminished.  This happens to the areolar diameter as well.

I would very strongly recommend against areolar reduction alone or in conjunction with gyne surgery.  You will end up with a much larger scar than needed (completely around the edge of the areola) and oftentimes the scar will not be a good one.

Best to speak to a gyne surgery expert in your area or consider traveling for such expertise.

Good luck!

Yes, it is very common to do both of those procedures simultaneously. There may be a slightly higher chance that you could lose sensation to your nipples when doing both, but otherwise, the overall risks and potential complications are not much different as long as you are young and healthy. Talk to a PS about your specific goals and concerns, and he/she can help you get a clear picture of what to expect. Best of luck!
