Can men get nipple reduction surgery too?

I'm a 27-year old gay male. I'm fit and pretty pleased with my body but I hate my nipples. I detest them! They're too long and they get pointy! They're super sensitive so anything touching them makes them 'react' and they're almost always visible beneath my shirts. My partner loves them though and when I mention wanting nipple reduction surgery, he doesn't take me seriously and teases me that he'd leave if I had that done. I'm not even 100% certain that nipple reduction surgery is a possibility for men. If it is, I would like as much information as possible and would be very interested in knowing if I'd make a good candidate.

Dear baxxter757: Yes, nipple reduction and areola reduction are similar to that in females. It will leave scars but on the nipple and within the areola, the scars are nearly imperceptible. Nipple and areola arousal may be diminished as the removal of the skin will also remove or alter the skin receptors. Both procedures can be performed under local anesthesia; though I recommend with oral or IV sedation for those with hypersensitivity and anxiety. Look for a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who perform large volumes of breast lifts / reductions and reconstructions. All the best!

Yes, male nipple reduction is certainly possible.  It is performed under local anesthesia on an out-patient basis, and the procedure takes less than one hour.  You can read more about it on my website and see actual before and after photos.  Check it out at:

Hope this helps.

Baxter, nipple reduction is a possibility, and any thoughtful board certified plastic surgeon would probably encourage it on the grounds that you are doing it for yourself, and disregarding the pleas of your partner. I think you seem wise and reasonable and I would be happy to discuss the options. Excision and reduction of nipples can safely be performed in the office, under local anesthesia!
