Can someone explain Fraxel Laser Resurfacing?
Can someone explain what is involved with fraxel laser resurfacing? It looks like a great way to make my face look more refreshed but I do not understand how it actually works. Will it be a long recovery process? What type of pain will be associated with the procedure?
Fraxel is a trademarked term referring to a laser that treats skin in a fractionated or pixilated manner to allow quicker healing. There are many lasers that utilize this concept. Using fractionated technology the depth of penetration into the skin can also be more aggressive or deeper than with lasers that treat the entire skin surface.
Dr. John Burns has 2 Laser/Peel before & afters:
Fraxel helps improve sun damage, texture, acne scars and fine lines. Fraxel uses columns of light energy to heat the skin and induce areas of healing. Usually, only a small percentage of the skin is treated (7-20%). This improves the skin with relatively less downtime.
We use the Halo laser for these conditions and our patients are very happy. The Halo laser hurts less than Fraxel with only 4 days downtime. We still use Fraxel for localized areas, such as scars or crows feet.
