Can you lose weight with a Tummy Tuck?

I'm 5 ft 4 inches and 165 lbs. I know tummy tucks aren't recommended for losing weight but getting rid of a few extra pounds will make me feel much better. I gained a lot of weight over the last 4 years, ever since I've become a full-time mother. Staying home with my kids all day and never going out to meet people has had a major impact on my life. I totally neglected to take care about the way I look which is how I wound up becoming overweight. I know there's no excuse for forgetting about yourself, but I've learned my lesson. I'm now even willing to try major surgery if I have to. Any advice for this careless mommy before I book an appointment?

A tummy tuck is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss procedure.  You will only lose a few pounds at most with the procedure.  It is best performed on patients who are at or very near their goal weight.  If you are planning on losing weight, I strongly suggest you do so before the procedure because losing it after the procedure can significantly affect the results.

Hi-

I generally do not recommend body contouring surgery for patients as a way to lose weight. Your overall satisfaction from the operation will be much lower if you are not near your ideal realistic body weight. A lot of the patient's like to come in for the consultation and schedule the surgery as a motivator to reach their ideal body weight prior to surgery and often the patient delays even further before undergoing the operation because they realize they can surpass their set milestone with diet , exercise, and motivation. Good Luck!
