Do Insurance plans typically cover Blepharoplasty?

Tags:woman age 45-54 insurance

I do not think I will be able to afford my Blepharoplasty out of pocket. Do insurance plans typically cover them? I do not have any real visual impairment so I guess this would be characterized as purely a cosmetic adjustment. Ugh, is there any way around having to pay cash all up front?

Dear IvySteers,

Thank you for your question. Insurance coverage of upper eyelid blepharoplasty varies between each company. Usually, documented visual field obstruction by an optometrist, as well as photos are needed. If you do not have visual obstruction the blepharoplasty will not be covered. Cosmetic surgery can be surprisingly affordable compared to insurance fees/deductibles. Financing options are available at most practices.

If there is no visual impairment, insurance will not cover an upper lid blepharoplasty.  There are financing options available such at Cosmeticare with no interest payment due for the first year.  Ask your surgeon for available finance options.
