Does a laser tummy tuck eliminate the excessive skin too?

The traditional tummy tuck gets rid of both the fat and the skin, but I don't know if laser tummy tuck does the same thing. I know how a laser functions and I don't understand if it has any result with the sagging skin. I wouldn't want to end up with a flabby tummy after spending all this money.

It's understandable to be confused by the term "laser tummy tuck" because it isn't really a tummy tuck at all.

A laser tummy tuck is a liposuction procedure which uses a laser prior to a standard liposuction. The point of the laser is to heat the fat in the lower abdomen prior to extraction. This heat may also stimulate collagen production around the treatment area and in so doing help increase skin elasticity.

Some doctors claim that SmartLipo or laser tummy tuck procedures offer a higher level of accuracy than liposuction alone. Others suggest this higher accuracy translates into a smoother contoured appearance and more reliable results. I have not seen any scientific data to suggest that the combination of laser therapy with a traditional liposuction procedure results in a tighter, smoother, or more slender contour.

To answer your question about excess skin: No, laser liposuction will not remove sagging skin. To some extent any liposuction procedure will result in skin tightening during the healing process, but this tightening should not be compared to the amount of tightening achievable with traditional tummy tuck surgery.

It's common to be left with excess abdominal skin following pregnancy and/or rapid weight loss. If this excess skin is bothering you, I encourage you to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss a tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck. A so-called laser tummy tuck isn’t likely to be sufficient.

A laser tummy tuck is an invented marketing term for a laser liposuction. It should not be confused with an actual tummy tuck.

A laser-assisted liposuction involves the insertion of a small laser fiber prior to the insertion of a liposuction cannula. The laser fiber uses laser energy to heat abdominal fat beneath the surface of the skin before the liposuction procedure begins.

Ultimately, a laser tummy tuck is a more elaborate abdominal liposuction procedure. It provides some minor skin tightening along with the removal of excess fat, but won’t correct loose skin to anywhere near the extent a real surgical tummy tuck will.

I can't say whether you're a good candidate for abdominal liposuction or tummy tuck surgery without a personal consultation, but if you have loose or sagging abdominal skin, it sounds like liposuction fat removal is probably not going to be enough to address your situation.

The term laser tummy tuck is a misnomer. It isn't a tummy tuck at all. A real tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is an invasive cosmetic surgery procedure which removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles.

A laser tummy tuck is basically just another term for a laser-assisted liposuction, which is often offered under the brand name "SmartLipo". Other brand names include "CoolLipo" and "LipoTherme".

During the laser treatment phase of the procedure, a laser fiber is inserted into the abdomen. Unlike a full tummy tuck procedure, there is no large scar left behind. The laser fiber heats and melts the abdominal fat so it can be more easily removed by the liposuction cannula.

While liposuction and laser liposuction do help remove belly fat deposits -- they can't correct the sagging folds of skin so common after rapid weight loss or childbirth. It's not clear from your question exactly how much excess skin or fat you have in your abdominal area, but it sounds like a real tummy tuck may make more sense in your case.

I can't offer you any direct medical advice without a personal consultation, so I encourage you to schedule an appointment with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience in both liposuction and abdominoplasty to see which procedure makes the most sense for you.

Hello ,

There is no such a thing as laser tummy tuck. This is a kind of marketing trick and one of the marketing expressions that we often hear. Excess skin can be removed with tummy tuck surgery. I hope it helps you.

Best wishes and Luck

Laser tummy tuck is a marketing gimmick. At this time the only sure way to remove excess skin and guarantee the improved body contour is from an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck. Good Luck!
