How common is liposuction for men?
It just seems that no matter how much I work out there's still areas of my body that are too fat. I see the other guys my age at the gym and some of them are really fit and some of them are just like me. Fit but with pockets of fat. If I could get the fat out of those areas for once and for all, I wouldn't feel like I was cheating. I don't know any men who have had liposuction BUT maybe they're just not saying they had it? Do a lot of men have liposuction? I wouldn't be ashamed to have it done but I'd just be curious to know I'm not alone in feeling this way and acting on it.
Yes, some men simply can't lose fat in some areas very easily, even being fit and working out RELIGIOUSLY. The love handles are notoriously difficult to burn off. There may be a biologic reason for this: some data indicates that the concentration of substances that inhibit/prevent fat burning are higher in these areas - maybe an evolutionary thing that allows us to store fat for "hibernation" that is only burned off during starvation.
Not to worry! Liposuction may be the answer. I assure you that lipo is very common in men - it is one of the most commonly requested cosmetic procedures in men, and men represent about 10% of all cosmetic surgery done in the US. You can bet you know people who have had it done who have not admitted to it.
In this new age of heightened cosmetic visibility we also can perform "high-definition" liposuction of the abdomen, also called abdominal etching, to enhance the muscular appearance in men and women who work out and want really prominent abs to show.
You can learn more about this on our website. We will be adding some of our male lipo patient photos shortly!
For out of town patients we regularly do virtual video consultations to start the evaluation process.
Hope this helps!

Yes, you are correct on both counts: liposuction is very common in men and guys just don't talk about it to others. Liposuction is perfect to address you concerns -- it can specifically target and remove stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. My practice, in fact, has roughly 50% men being seen for treatment. For further information, see: http://www.plasticsurgeonnewyork.com/liposuction.php
