How much recovery time after a Mommy Makeover?

I know how great Mommy Makeovers are for women whose bodies have been rendered a little worse for wear after giving birth, that it really helps alot with their confidence. So I think getting one myself could be perfect, I'm pretty excited about the possibilities. My only serious concern is how much time a girl needs to recover afterward. I am not in a position to be able to take a month or so away from my job, it's simply impossible, so this is very important to me. I think I'd choose “the whole works” if I was able to get one but would be prepared to forego any of the less important procedures if it significantly reduced the amount of recovery time. If I had no other options, that is. Thanks.

Hi. although full healing and recovery may take 6-8 weeks, many patients can get back to non-strenuous jobs after 2 weeks.  It would be best to consult with a plastic surgeon so you can get an in-person answer to this question which may be slightly different for different people depending on the actual procedure you have.  Best of luck!

A mommy makeover procedure addresses the two areas most adversely affected by childbirth and breastfeeding: the stomach and breasts. Many women elect to undergo a tummy tuck and receive breast implants simultaneously, both being major surgeries.

Mommy makeover recovery is generally divided into stages. Most patients require at least two weeks before feeling ready to return to work, and then an additional four weeks before they’re able to lift heavy objects or perform intense physical activities like working out at the gym. It can take up to three months for the swelling and soreness to fully subside.

Since recovery from plastic surgery largely depends on the individual, you should ideally be in an optimal state of health before undergoing surgery. Recovery is further helped along by having a strong support system at home (particularly in the first week after surgery), wearing compression garments, ensuring you listen to your body, get ample rest, and ease any discomfort you experience with pain medication.

While it’s essential to factor the recovery period into your decision, bear in mind that the procedure can significantly rejuvenate your appearance and restore your pre-baby body.

A traditional mommy makeover provides body contouring by combining some form of breast surgery, such as an augmentation and/or lift, with tummy tuck surgery. Because mommy makeover surgery is customized for the individual, and individuals experience different rates of recovery based on their unique physiology, it’s difficult to offer reliable generalizations about recovery time.

Most patients, however, require at least two weeks of rest and recovery before they feel comfortable enough to return to work and their normal activities, particularly when two procedures are performed together. A return to vigorous workouts and heavy lifting requires at least six weeks of recovery.

The recovery process can be accelerated by wearing compression garments and closely following your doctors' post-op guidelines. For a more definitive answer I suggest you speak with a board-certified plastic surgeon to learn what can feasibly be achieved given your limited amount of recovery time.

From: A Woman, To: A Woman...A Mommy Makeover can be life changing for a woman. Depending on what the individual needs, the healing process can vary greatly. I would definitely suggest moving forward with a consultation to see what will be needed before you write off your chance at a Mommy Makeover. Depending on what is suggested for you, you can break the procedures up into different times so the healing process is not so hard on you. I would love to see you in my office some day. Take Care!

After having a Mommy Makeover, my patients typically return to work in 7 days, depending on their line of work.  If your job requires heavy lifting you will need more time off.  You will still be sore, but will able to do simple tasks.  Your best bet be would be to have a few consultations with Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in your area.  I hope this information was helpful to you.

Best Wishes, Dr. B.

Generally I recommend recovery of at least 10-14 days out of work and you will be sore and swollen for 6weeks to 3 months. The reason for the time off work is you want to allow time for incisions to heal and give you the best scars and result possible. Good Luck!

A mommy makeover is a big procedure, But most patients recovery time is typically 7 days. You will not feel 100 percent after 7 days but you will be able to move more and do a lot more with much less discomfort.
