How soon after a mommy makeover can I drive?

I have to drive my three children to school every morning.

Hi deborahhh,

Thanks for your question!  Every doctor's recommendations can be different but I allow my patients to drive when they feel like they can do it safely and they are no longer taking narcotic pain medicine.  I use Exparel which is a long acting local anesthetic that I inject into the chest and abdominal muscles so that the amount of narcotics my patients need postop is minimized.

On average, mommy makeover patients in my practice can drive in 7-10 days.

Hope that helps,

Everyone is different and every surgeon has their own preferences. I would reserve 2-3 weeks off of driving. It is typically dependent on the particular patients recovery and when they feel good enough to quickly turn from side to side and be able to react quickly in case of an emergency. I would check with your surgeon for his or her specific recommendations.

Every surgeon will have there own idea of how much time off and your return to activity based on the size of the procedure, your overall health and other factors. You need to be discussing this with you surgeon not on the internet.

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for the question. I usually alow my patients to drive after 2 weeks so they can do it safely without any sudden movements that can jeopardize their surgery.

Maybe you can time your surgery during a school break.

Best of luck!
