Is a breast reduction the same as liposuction?
My DDs cause me physical pain, mainly in my back. I’m small so carrying them around has really taken its toll on my body. They’ve been this big since I was 17. Over the years they’ve started to sag quite a bit causing ugly stretch marks. At 37 I’m just now considering breast reduction surgery. I think I should have done it sooner than waiting 20 years, but no time like the present, right? Is a breast reduction similar to liposuction where fat is removed through a tube? And would I also need a breast lift at the same time?
Liposuction is one technique that may be used for breast reduction if the breasts are sufficiently fatty to do so effectively. It does not work effectively on dense breasts, which are often seen in younger women. Traditional breast reduction entails direct excision of the excess breast tissue, followed by rearrangement of the remaining tissue to shape and, yes, lift the breasts. So if your breasts are excessively large, they are generally low/sagging as well, and you would automatically get a breast lift as part of the reduction surgery.
