Is genetics the main cause of hyperhidrosis?

Neither of my parents had to deal with the severe sweating I've experienced since high school. I always thought it would pass, but I'm not seeing any improvement over the years, and now I'm trying to figure out if it's a genetic disease or if it's something thats wrong with me.

Hyperhidrosis is likely multifactorial and may have a genetic component as well.  It is related to stress hormone response.  Treatments are wide ranging and in my practice are focused on Botox or MiraDry.

Genetics is often the cause for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)  There are other causes, such as menopause, diabetes, cancer and certain medications, but oftentimes the true cause is unknown.  I have written extensively about this problem and treatment solutions -- you can read more about it on my website:

Hope this has helped.
