Is it better to have a Brazilian butt lift or butt implants?
What are the major differences and is one safer than the other? I feel like Brazilian butt lifts are very popular now, but how does a butt lift actually increase the size of your butt? Seems like butt implants would definitely do that. Does Kim Kardashian have both? There’s no way her butt is natural!
Brazilian butt lifts and butt implants are two very different procedures. Both have their benefits and drawbacks, but I prefer the Brazilian butt lift for a number of reasons.
Brazilian butt lifts use a patient's own body fat to contour and sculpt the shape of the buttocks. Because the injected fat is native to the body, the results generally look extremely natural.
Butt implants involve surgery to insert silicone prosthetics into the buttocks. The implants are placed either under or over the muscle, and the procedure may be combined with fat grafting.
Both Brazilian butt lifts and butt implant surgery can achieve excellent results when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, but patients should be aware that there are more potential complications with buttock implants than with Brazilian butt lifts. I can't offer you any specific advice without a personal consultation, but in general I believe the Brazilian Butt lift is probably the better of the two options.
For best results, always remember to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
The question of "what's better" depends on the individual and the specific case. As such I can't provide you with any direct advice without an in-office examination, but I can outline a few of the benefits and drawbacks of both butt lifts and butt implants.
A Brazilian butt lift is a fat grafting procedure which harvests excess fat from the flanks, lower back and abdomen, and grafts it to the buttocks. The procedure adds fullness and sculpting to the buttocks, while slimming the area directly above it. The slimming and contouring of the lumbar area and flanks, combined with added volume to the buttocks, is what creates the look of a higher, fuller, protruding butt.
Butt implants by contrast are silicone prosthetics surgically implanted over or under the glute muscles to enhance the contour and projection of the buttocks. Butt implants sometimes become uncomfortable and harden with time, and there are multiple potential complications to be aware of.
If you’re considering buttock augmentation, I suggest discussing both options with your plastic surgeon to see which makes the most sense for you and your existing anatomy.
As for what the world's most famous Instagram, social media and reality star has done with her rear end: Kim Kardashian West claims she’s never had buttock implants. To my knowledge she did admit to a cortisone shot once in order to fix what she called a "huge indent" in one of her buttocks. If one is to believe the gossip columns she’s also had a "boob job", "nose job" and multiple Botox treatments over the years.
One question we plastic surgeons are asked all the time is: "how can I get a butt like Kim Kardashian?" And then the inevitable follow-up question: “has Kim Kardashian had butt implants?"
I'm no expert on reality tv shows or the Kardashian sisters, but the official line from the Kim Kardashian camp is that despite the never-ending rumours, neither Kim, her sister Khloe, or half-sister Kylie Jenner have ever had butt implants.
Which may be true, or might not be.
To be fair, a Brazilian butt lift procedure/fat transfer could easily be enough to explain her well-documented body changes without resorting to rumors of buttock implants (as so many nonsense tabloids claim). A Brazilian butt lift is really two different procedures. The first element involves liposuction to slim down the abdomen, lower back and flanks. This body contouring procedure alone often has the effect of making the buttocks look bigger relative to the waist.
The second part of the Brazilian butt lift is to graft the same previously extracted fat into the buttocks to improve the shape and fullness of the figure. When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon with a good understanding of aesthetics and body contouring, the results can look remarkably natural.
Butt implant surgery is a very different procedure that involves inserting silicone implants into each buttock. So to answer your question of which is "better", the Brazilian butt lift has far fewer complications and makes it easier to achieve natural-looking results.
With the Brazilian butt lift we have more control over sculpting and shaping the buttocks. Most Brazilian butt lifts use anywhere from 250cc to 1250cc per buttock. I would wager to guess that in the case of Kim Kardashian the amount transferred would be on the high side of that scale.
Both Brazilian Buttock Lifts and buttock implants work very well to increase the size and curvature of your buttocks. The BBL has the advantage of being able to take fat from where you don't want it and putting it where you do want it. You can place the fat wherever you want it, including the hips (trochanteric depressions).
Buttock implants work very well at enhancing the central buttocks. You cannot enlarge the hips unless you add fat there also. There are more potential compications with buttock implants, including seroma (fluid accumulation) and infection.
If you have an adequate amount of fat, I prefer to do a Brazilian Buttock Lift.
I don't have any idea what Kim Kardashian did but there is a lot of something in there, I think!!!
Dr. Ken Stein
Just because Kim's butt is large enough to be front page material in dozens of gossip magazines doesn't necessarily mean she's had silicone implants.
But I think you're correct, unless her personal trainer is miracle worker, her buttocks aren’t terribly likely to be "natural".
Most likely she has had a Brazilian butt lift procedure. A butt lift increases the size of the buttocks to some extent, but much of the appearance of increased size can be attributed to liposuction of the lower back, sides and tummy.
During a Brazilian butt lift procedure, plastic surgeons remove fat from areas where there is excess fat storage and graft it to areas which need aesthetic contouring. In most cases, fat is grafted to the upper parts and sides of the buttocks to sculpt a higher, rounder contour.
Both silicone implants and fat grafting can produce beautiful, natural looking results, but fat grafting is more popular because it has fewer complications, is less invasive, and allows the plastic surgeon more control over the aesthetic contouring.
If you're considering either procedure, for safety and best results remember to only work with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has extensive experience with buttock augmentation.
