Is Liposuction or Abdominoplasty better for men?

I am a 39-year-old 5ft 7in male and need to thin out my mid section. My weight hovers around 30 pounds over weight. Would you recommend a liposuction or abdominoplasty? I honestly do not understand the difference and would love for someone to spell it out for me.

If you are not substantially overweight and have, like many men, a collection of fat around the abdomen, then most likely liposuction alone will be of help.  It is a simpler and less extensive operation than an abdominoplasty.  Abdominoplasty, which is often combined with liposuction, will also tighten any lax skin.  Obviously, your next step would be to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who will examine you, make recommendations and explain the differences to you.

Hello LynchSS, thanks for your inquiry, These procedures treat different problems and they are often combined to enhance the result. Liposuction is the action of taking out stubborn fat deposits with a cannula and Abdominoplasty is an incision in your lower abdomen which gets rid of the extra sagging skin that most of the times weight fluctuation leaves in the mid section, it also repairs the abdominal muscle wall which lets you achieve a flatter abdomen. It is hard to give you an accurate evaluation without an image.

Please make sure that you and your surgeon are on the same page. Don't forget to discuss all your concerns, options and expectations thoroughly. Have a safe and pleasant PS Journey!
