Male To Female Transgender Breast Augmentation
Is there a huge difference between MtF breast augmentation and regular breast augmentation? Is it more complicated? Since the hormone therapy didn't help much, I feel that I should do something more invasive to increase my almost non-existent breasts. Any advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
No, there isn’t a huge difference between MtF breast augmentation and traditional breast augmentation. Many of the surgical techniques are identical.
As with traditional breast augmentation, there is no difference in the choice of implants, plus the surgical procedures for transgender patients are the same.
However, some special considerations for female transgenders are worth pointing out:
One factor that should be taken into account is the difference in existing breast size and anatomy. Transgender women have potentially larger pectoral muscles (chest muscles), increased breadth of the shoulders and may be taller. It’s important to make aesthetic decisions that work together with all these factors in order to achieve the most natural look.
Another consideration is implant/cup size:
Because trans-women often prefer larger breast sizes and may have tighter chest skin to start with, certain steps may be required. In the majority of cases, the skin on the chest will stretch to accommodate the implants. But in cases where the implants are larger, an additional procedure may be required.
Alternatively, inflatable tissue expanders, which stretch the skin in the chest area, can be inserted beforehand.
Transgender breast augmentation surgery is something that can be done at any point during your gender transition -- whether you’ve begun hormone therapy or not.
As with any breast augmentation or other involved procedure, make sure you visit a board-certified plastic surgeon to ensure the best results and safest practices. And, again, you would also benefit by consulting a plastic surgeon knowledgeable about and experienced in MtF breast augmentation procedures.

Thank you for writing to Zwivel.
Augmentation Mammoplasty by any techniques that is used in regular augmentation mammoplasty will work. Particularly the Trans- axillary will work the best as the incision is placed in the axillae. As the tissues expand a natural appearance of the breasts will be seen.
M2F Breast augmentation has different considerations than a regular augmentation due to the facts that the nipple areola complex is usually in a higher position, tissues are different, muscle complexion is different, the nipple to nipple distance is also different, among other things. Breast augmentation is always a very satisfactory surgery especially in Transgender patients, especially if your surgeon has experience with Transgender patients. My advice is to ask your Doctor about his experience, chose wisely and ¡Go for it!
