Micro-punch excision on fordyce spots

I am not asking about microneedling but that is the closest I could find to micro punch excision. I don't know if this is the place to ask this but do you know of any doctors in the US that perform micro punch procedures on fordyce spots on the penis? Thank you

Typically we use a punch excision for deep acne scars -- such as ice pick type scars.

Without a personal consultation however I can't say whether punch excision would be the best treatment option for penile fordyce spots.

Punch excisions are performed with a 'punch biopsy tool'. This round cookie cutter-like tool is used to remove a small circle of tissue from the treatment area. The punch biopsy tool leaves a deep pit in the skin -- which is easily sutured together -- and a tiny scar.

Because excisional surgery typically only involves superficial skin structures, we can use local anesthesia. Plus, the procedures are often very short.

Whether or not this approach makes sense for the removal of your penile sebaceous glands, however, would depend on your presentation. Fordyce spots do sometimes coalesce to form clusters and can present cosmetic issues. But a punch tool alone may not be the best choice.

While punch incisions do make sense for acne scar treatment, we typically prefer to use laser resurfacing for the treatment of fordyce spots.

I encourage you to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine which options are best for you.

We generally use lasers (CO2 laser) to ablate the fordyce spots.  This is not considered medically necessary, but would be a cosmetic procedure.  Cost is $500 - $800 per session.
