Risk of Fat Embolism During Liposuction?

Hello - I'm 23 years old and I will be having liposuction of my flanks and abdomen under local anesthesia with light sedation. Approxiametely 1.5L of fat will be removed. I would like to know if I should fear a fat embolism during my procedure? Are they common with liposuction? I'm quite worried about this. Thanks!

According to a study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the mortality risk with liposuction due to pulmonary embolism is 0.01%, and it is generally associated with large volume (>5L) liposuction.  That said, your risk of fat embolism with liposuction when removing 1.5L is very small.
