What are the best practices for Juvederm aftercare?

I recently had 1cc of Juvederm injected around my mouth to treat a few deep lines I had. Is there anything I can do to prolong the effects of dermal fillers? Does using more ointments or cleaning my face more thoroughly have any effect on how long Juvederm will last?

There are some Juvederm aftercare instructions that come highly recommended. For example, you should continuously apply an ice pack to the injection area for the first 45 minutes post-treatment.

In answer to your question though, once the initial aftercare procedures have been followed, there are no creams or topical products that will make the effects of Juvederm treatment last longer. Typically the effect wears off around the six month mark in the perioral area -- although because some people metabolize hyaluronic acid-based fillers faster than others, the timeline can vary somewhat.

It’s not clear from your question whether you were treated with Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Ultra Plus lip injections. The Ultra Plus filler is a slightly thicker solution intended for deeper folds of the skin that has been shown to last longer than regular Juvederm Ultra.

You might also be interested in Evolence or Radiesse. Unlike most dermal fillers, Evolence is collagen-based, while Radiesse is a synthetic version of a bone precursor that already exists naturally within the body. Both products typically last longer than Juvederm Ultra.

Hyaluronic acid based cosmetic fillers only maintain their plumping effect on the treated area for a limited amount of time.

Juvederm Ultra injectable filler typically lasts between 4 and 6 months before the body naturally breaks it down and absorbs it. As with all facial filler treatments, the amount of time the results will last depends on the individual and the specific area being treated.

There are no post-procedure techniques to make your lip enhancements last longer, but the next time you may want to try a different dermal filler. Results from Juvederm's newer Ultra Plus and Ultra Plus XC usually last up to one year.

Juvederm or Restylene are the most common filler used for this area.

The duration of Juvederm is usually 9-12 months before it breaks down and is absorbed.  The duration of the results is not effected or prolonged by creams, cleansing or facial activity.

Hollow cheeks are best addressed with Sculptra or fat transfer.  Both of these will be far more cost effective than hyaluronic acid fillers in a broad based hollow defect.

No, in the perioral area Juvederm is expected to last about 6 months.
