What is the best Pillow for Sitting After bbl?

What is the best pillow to use after getting a Brazilian butt lift? There are a variety of options but has anyone had a personally better experience with a specific option? I do not want to have to go out after the procedure and get a new pillow if the first one I buy is no good.

Butt augmentation surgery is the fastest growing type of plastic surgery. With over 10,000 Brazilian butt lift procedures performed in the US alone last year, there are dozens of manufacturers who have risen to meet the opportunity with butt lift recovery pillows, with the number of choices increasing every year.

There are many different brands of these butt lift surgery pillows. Some of the more well-known are the "Original BBL Pillow", the "BBL Booty Pillow", the "Booty Buddy Pillow", the "Curve Cure", and the "Bombshell Booty Pillow".

Each of these pillows have different advantages and disadvantages. Some are inflatable and fit into a suitcase or work bag. Others are appropriately sized for airplane seats while some are environmentally friendly and made from high quality eco-friendly materials. There are also specialized car seat cushions made for driving.

All these buttock support pillows share a similar strategy: they move body weight off the buttocks and on to the legs.

Which pillow makes for an easier recovery really depends on the individual patient and the specifics of their surgery. Nobody can tell you which type of BBL recovery pillow is the best, just as nobody can tell you which type of bedding pillow is the most comfortable for sleeping. My advice is to read customer reviews and try a few different styles.

Remember that even with a support pillow, you'll want to sit down only for short periods during your recovery process. If you have any specific questions about your recovery, you should contact your plastic surgeon directly.

A Brazilian buttlift procedure includes a fat transfer to improve the contour of the buttocks and to create a more rounded or inverted heart shape to the butt.

Unfortunately, along with the wonderful aesthetic benefits of a butt lif comes a recovery during which sitting on your buttocks can be uncomfortable and frustrating.

The first thing to keep in mind is that there’s no medical need for a specialized BBL pillow. The grafted fat cells will not move around inside your buttocks as a result of sitting normally. Once the liposuction and fat transfer procedures are complete, the fat stays exactly where it is injected. Many doctors advise waiting for two weeks following surgery before sitting down normally, but this guidance is intended more for the comfort of the patient than any medical necessity.

Some patients express concern that if they sit on their fat grafts, the pressure from doing so will somehow kill the new fat cells and prevent the grafts from taking. While sitting can feel uncomfortable, it’s unlikely to have any effect regarding the survival of the fat grafts.

What is advisable, however, is to avoid sleeping with direct pressure on your buttocks. If possible, try to sleep in a position that puts as little pressure as possible on your rear end.

Many patients feel more comfortable sitting with a pillow that supports their thighs and suspends their buttocks over the surface of a chair. You don't need a special pillow to do this, almost any type will be fine.

Just make sure your pillow or cushion is strategically placed under your upper thighs so your weight is shifted onto your legs and off your buttocks. Many women also find it easier to sit "backwards" on a standard armless chair, straddling the chair-back between their knees. This position can be very comfortable because the buttocks extend over the lip of the chair and have nothing but air beneath them.

If you want to try a specialized BBL pillow, you’ll find many are available online. I can't say which one would be most comfortable for you personally but I would suggest trying a standard bed pillow or cushion first, at least until you understand specifically what features you're looking for in a more premium offering.

Also remember to stand up frequently, shift your weight back and forth, and do plenty of walking over the first seven to 10 days following surgery to maximize blood flow and assist with your recovery.

I would suggest asking your surgeon if they have a preference. Plastic surgeons who have performed hundreds of BBL procedures are likely to have their own recommendations regarding which pillows most effectively protect the fat grafts during the recovery period, based on their patients' experiences.

If your surgeon has no preference, then you might consider trying a boppy pillow. There are some helpful videos available online that show how to adjust a boppy pillow to suit your needs following Brazilian butt lift surgery:

The Booty Buddy is also a good choice: It is made of memory foam on the top layer to ensure comfort and is shaped like a wedge, sloping upwards as it reaches the back of the thighs, to provide elevation. The butt hangs free over the back of the pillow.

Regardless of the Brazilian butt lift recovery pillow you choose, ensure that it has a hole in the middle or that it shifts the weight from the buttocks to the legs when seated. The less pressure that is placed on the buttocks, the better. The newly transferred fat cells are vulnerable to damage while they are establishing a blood supply.

Sitting comfortably after a Brazilian butt lift can be difficult. While I can't recommend any specific brands of BBL pillows, here are a few tips to keep in mind to make your post-op recovery more comfortable:

First, you should try and only sit for 20 minute increments during the recovery process. After every 20 minutes, get up and walk around a bit before sitting down again. A few minutes will be fine.

Second: When you sit down post-BBL, the most comfortable way to sit is with a straight posture, shifting your weight forwards, away from your buttocks and onto the back of your legs.

The easiest way to do this is to find a chair without arms. Turn the chair towards you and straddle it, sitting on the chair backwards. When in this position, you can lean forward with your arms on the back of the chair and your buttocks hanging slightly over the "front" of the chair. This position will keep the pressure off your buttocks and feel far more comfortable.

As an alternative if you don't have any armless chairs handy, you can use a cushion or bed pillow, but you'll want to position it so your weight is on the underside of your thighs and not your buttocks. When done correctly, your buttocks should hang over the back of the cushion.

There's no one perfect position for post-op sitting. While there are many brands of specialized butt lift pillows and "booty pillows", the concept for most of these is the same; they shift your sitting-weight forwards to the underside of your legs. By sitting on the backs of your thighs, you're able to relieve pressure on your buttock area, which should hopefully make a big difference to your comfort level.

There is no one best product but one of my former patient coordinators developed and patented a booty pillow she sells at mybootypillow.com.
