What is the ideal weight for gynecomastia surgery?

Tags:man age 25-34 210-229 lbs chest gynecomastia overweight

I’ve been considering gynecomastia surgery for some time now. I’m definitely a bit overweight, probably by about 40 lbs for my height (220 lbs). Is there an ideal weight I should be trying to get to before undergoing surgery? As a secondary question, if there isn’t an ideal weight, is it better to be more in shape before having surgery? I would hate to spend the money and not get the best results possible. Thanks.

I would recommend that you reduce your weight to your lowest and most comfortable and stable weight.  Do not set goals for yourself which are unattainable because you would then never qualify in your own mind for the surgery.

The presence of gynecomastia often poses a detriment to guys who want to lose weight.  They are embarrassed to remove their shirts in the locker room or to have their breasts bounce while on the treadmill.  They then refrain from exercising which is a mainstay of any weight loss regimen, give up and reluctantly live with their gynecomastia.

I have operated on many men who may not be absolutely at their ideal weight.  Once their gynecomastia is reduced substantially, they have a better self image, begin to take charge of their life and continue their weight loss.  The vast majority state that the operation was "life-changing."

Therefore, take heart and realize that "all not need be perfect" in order to have gynecomastia surgery.

Hello Stevecar, thanks for your inquiry. The best weight is being closest as your ideal weight as possible for any elective procedure. From 20 to 25 BMI is required. This is not only to get best results but to be as safest as possible during the procedure.

Please make sure that you and your surgeon are on the same page. Don't forget to discuss all your concerns, options and expectations thoroughly. Have a safe and pleasant PS Journey!
