What is scar revision?
I would like to know how scar revision works and if it applies to my situation. I'm concerned that it only apply to scars that are the result of plastic surgery procedures (i.e., residual scarring from breast reduction or augmentation or the like)? I had terrible acne for many years as a teenager and I have embarrassing scarring on one side of my face, from below my ear and just above and along my jawline. Could a scar revision work for a case like mine? I guess it all goes back to my original question of what is scar revision as it pertains to cosmetic surgery?
Scars Can be treated in many different ways. In my practice, we use a laser to treat the scars. We will use a photofacial ipl to remove the color of pigmentation from the scar, we will use Microeedling to break down the scar tissue, and sometimes we will use CO2 to break down the scar as well. This process is a slow process as we are not extremely aggressive when we do these treatments and we do them in a very controlled manner. The results we have gotten from using these methods are excellent. It can take as long as a year to a year and a half to get to the end result we are looking for. We often see patients who get discouraged because they don't see immediate results but over time they love the results.
Acne scars are sometimes bad enough to require surgical revision. Sometimes they can be treated with external devices like laser or dermabrasion, which are less invasive. It depends on how severe your issue is. It would be best for you to go to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon that has a lot of experience with this problem so you can be sure to get good advice on what would work for you. Best of luck!
