What is a tummy tuck?

Just a very brief question: what is a tummy tuck exactly? How serious a surgery is it and how much recuperation time is generally needed? Also is there a cut-off age after which a doctor would not perform a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck is also called an abdominoplasty and it is cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen thinner and more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall.  Here is a video animation of the procedure

While there is some downtime, with a 24 hour rapid recovery, no narcotic and no drain tummy tuck most women are back to their normal daily activities in about a day or two.  Here is a link to more information on the rapid recovery protocol.

While there is no real age cut off, there is a weight cut off.  Patients who are over a BMI of 30 are not good candidates for this surgery.
