What is a Vaginoplasty?
I recently heard about a procedure that could help what my children destroyed. What exactly is a Vaginoplasty? How much does it cost and what type of recovery time should I expect? Thanks!
Vaginoplasty is a term that is used to describe multiple procedures which are used to repair, reshape and rejuvenate the effects of aging and childbirth. Vaginoplasty procedures can include: external skin lightening procedures, fractional CO2 laser vaginal tightening, surgical excision of excess labial skin (labioplasty), surgical repair and tightening of the deep vaginal wall with repair of rectocele and cystocele. As you can see, these procedures range from minor superficial to major surgical. Recovery and cost will vary depending on the amount of work needed. Do your homework, choose a surgeon who will spend time with you regarding your problem areas to design a plan just for you.
A vaginoplasty is a small surgical procedure to tighten and reposition the labia. Cost may vary from surgeon to surgeon but it is a well tolerated procedure with very little recovery. Patients have to abstain from intercourse for about 4 weeks post procedure. Hope this was helpful. Good Luck!
The effects of childbirth can stretch the vaginal muscles and tissue, which can reduce friction during sexual intercourse. Vaginoplasty surgery is a type of vaginal rejuvenation procedure that essentially tightens the vagina and can help with certain health problems such as urinary incontinence, as well as increase sexual satisfaction.
The details of the cosmetic procedure vary from person to person depending on what needs to be addressed. The procedure usually takes less than two hours and can be performed under local anesthesia (although many choose to have it done under general anesthesia). It typically involves removing excess skin and/or tightening the pelvic floor of the vagina. This type of plastic surgery is performed with a scalpel or lasers, depending on the experience and preferences of your surgeon. The outcome is similar with either approach.
After surgery, you’ll probably have some swelling and bruising that will gradually fade within a couple of weeks. Your doctor may also prescribe pain medication to deal with any discomfort you may experience in the first few days post-op. Sexual intercourse and tampon use should be avoided for at least two months after surgery.
Although vaginoplasty is gradually becoming a more popular type of cosmetic surgery, it is still not a common procedure. As such, it’s critical that you take the time to find an experienced plastic surgeon or gynecologist who specializes in vaginal rejuvenation surgery in order to get the best results and minimize the risk of complications.
Vaginoplasty is one of a few different types of vaginal rejuvenation procedures that include:
● Labiaplasty: reduces the length of the labia minora.
● Clitoral hood reduction: removes some of the excess folds of the clitoral hood.
● Monsplasty: removes the bulge of excess skin and fat on the mons.
● Vaginoplasty: tightens the vaginal opening and/or inner vaginal walls.
Some patients choose to get a combination of these treatments, but you will need to speak to your surgeon to find out if you are a good candidate.
Vaginoplasty is used to tighten the vagina, undo some of the effects associated with aging and/or childbirth, and enhance sexual function. During the procedure, your surgeon will make an incision in your perineum (the area between the anus and the vagina) and remove a small amount of excess tissue. Your surgeon will then pull the vaginal muscles inward to fill the resulting space, and may tighten the vaginal opening as well.
During the recovery phase, it’s important to follow your surgeon’s postoperative care instructions exactly as directed. Initially, you will have some swelling and bruising that will dissipate over a few days, though you probably will be quite sore for a week or two after surgery.
You may be able to return to work after about a week, provided your job does not involve any heavy lifting or strenuous activity. Avoid sex or anything that involves vaginal penetration for six to eight weeks.
As with just about all types of plastic surgery, the cost can vary significantly depending on your location, the surgery required, and the fees set by your specific surgery clinic. For the procedure alone, you might expect to pay anywhere from about $3,000 to $12,000, which doesn’t include facility fees, anesthesiologist service charges, medication, and so on. Vaginoplasty usually isn’t covered by insurance, but many clinics offer some form of payment plan that allows you to spread the costs out over a period of time.
