What's the age limit for a breast reduction surgery?
I'm a 18 yo and I really really wish I had much smaller breasts. All my colleagues mock me for having a breast cup size this big (37DD). How old should I be for surgery? And how quick it can be done?? My mom supports my decision so I only need to know if I'm eligible.
That's a great question. There is no minimum age for breast reduction surgery, but younger women should understand a few important issues related to the procedure:
First, at the age of 18 it is possible that your breasts are still growing. If so, it could result in your breasts continuing to grow after breast tissue has already been removed. We usually recommend that young women wait until they are absolutely certain that their breast growth has stopped.
However, we evaluate each case individually -- particularly if your breast size is causing serious back or shoulder pain.
We have been very successful with breast reduction surgery in patients your age and younger. Whether the surgery is advisable for you at this time is something I could only determine after a personal consultation. I encourage you to contact a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss the available options and potential risks associated with the procedure.
There's no ideal age for breast reduction surgery. We have successfully performed breast reductions on patients younger than you, and we evaluate each case independently.
If your breast size is causing you back or neck pain, and is negatively impacting self-esteem and confidence, then a reduction mammoplasty is certainly something we can consider at this time.
By the age of 18 your breasts have most likely stopped growing -- aside from growth that’s related to overall weight gain or pregnancy - although this isn’t the case for all young women. We typically require breast volume to have been stable for the previous 6 months before considering surgery in order to ensure breast growth has stopped.
At the age of 18 you can legally sign your own consent forms for cosmetic surgery and do not require parental permission -- at least from a legal perspective.
Young women should be aware that there are possible complications resulting from breast reduction surgery which could negatively impact breastfeeding in the future. You should discuss these risks with your plastic surgeon to make sure you fully understand and accept the possibility of not being able to breastfeed. The decision to undergo plastic surgery to reduce large breasts is a personal decision and an important one.
I suggest that you try and consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area who ideally has experience with younger breast reduction patients.
Hi. There is no minimum age for breast reduction. Everyone has a unique situation and all issues can be considered. If your breasts are causing you those problems, then it would be wise to consider breast reduction surgery now. If you are still growing, then you have to understand that you may still get larger even after the reduction, but by age 18, usually most women have completed growing. You should consult with a plastic surgeon who is familiar with doing breast reductions on younger women so you can get all the answers. Good luck!

Hello and thanks for the question. No, your not too young for breast reduction surgery. But realize that you may have a recurrence of breast enlargement if you have not completed your pubertal stage. I recently operated on a 15 yo young girl with enlarged breasts that had similar concerns and she did very well.
