What's the best breast massage after augmentation?
I was wondering what the best way to massage my breasts was. I had breast augmentation done two weeks ago, and despite trying to massage them twice daily, I found that they are still very tight. I am quite petite however, and thought that maybe that was the reason why I haven't seen much improvement yet. Is this normal? Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Basically, none is needed. Even though there are a number of surgeons who prescribe various massaging techniques these do not in any way change the ultimate outcome or the speed in achieving the outcome. Initially, the most important considerations are the stabilization of the implant in an ideal position as a normal capsule is forming. To this end, we very frequently use a "stabilizing band" across the top to keep the implants in position. This is most critical in weeks 1-3.
In the past it was speculated that massage might reduce the incidence of capsule e formation- I believe this is not a factor. A low rate of capsule formation is more dependent on technique.

Generally, squeezing the implant from the bottom, using your thumb and your other fingers, pushing the implant up is what I recommend. If it's super tight, it may be better to wait a little longer for things to settle. What does your plastic surgeon say?
Dr. Jonathan Zelken has 6 Breast augmentation, Breast lift, Tummytuck before & afters:
Don't do any massage or anything without explicit instructions from your doctor. In my practice, I usually see implants drop between 3 and 4 weeks after surgery. I employ a "band" and don't massage unless the implants fail to drop after about 4 weeks.
