Why is profractional laser not recommended on dark skin?
All the doctors seem to agree that profractional laser is not for people with darker skin. Why is that? I want to get rid of the dark spots on my face caused by sun damage.
Hi Jenine, thanks for your question. Lasers cause inflammation of the dermis and the epidermis, which is where the pigment cells of your skin are. Because of that, you are at significant risk of problems with pigmentation with these treatments (hyper and hypo pigmentation).
One option that may help improve overall skin quality, and is "colorblind" is something like subdermal RF microneedling. These treatments address skin issues from the "bottom up" and are OK for use in patients with all skin types because of this. Refine Surgery
