Will liposuction tighten my skin?

What happens with your skin after a liposuction treatment? It seems like there would be excess flesh once the procedure's finished. Does something in the liposuction process leave the skin tighter to take care of that aspect of the surgery? Will I need another procedure to deal with the sagging skin?

Liposuction is not a skin tightening tool, rather a fat removal tool.  If however, the patient has good elastic skin (i.e. younger patients) and not a lot of hanging skin or loose ripply skin, then removal of the fat often is accompanied by a mild tightening of the skin.  Since every body is difference, Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Be certain your surgeon is properly certified.

Depends on your skin quality.  In a lot of cases, the skin will retract without any sagging.  However, if a lot of fat is removed, there may be some sagging afterwards.  There are some procedures but if the skin quality is poor, then they wont work.

Depending on your quality of skin it will contract somewhat after removing the underlying fat with liposuction.  Consider your skin like a balloon and your deflating it.  At some point the balloon stops contracting and starts sagging. A proper assessment by a qualified plastic surgeon will be able determine where that line is and if liposuction is right for you. Some people need to combine liposuction with a tummytuck to remove the excess sagging skin.   While o might have enough elasticity in their skin to tighten up nicely  with just my perception. Sometimes analogies help with this tightening including laser assisted (smartlipo), power assisted, or ultrasound assisted liposuction. However the tightening factor added by these technologies is still limited. They won't work miracles and I always like to point out that they tighten up an inch but they won't tighten up inches.

It depends. In many cases, liposuction will merely sculpt or shape the torso with targeted fat removal. If the skin is elastic the result can be quite nice. In other cases, for example after weight loss or with aging, the extra skin may require excision. There is a BRAND NEW third option you may also consider, and it's called BODY TITE, where skin excision is substituted for thermal tightening. If you are a candidate you may be able to avoid the scars of a tummy tuck.
