1 CC of Juvederm XC Injected Into My Lips. My Experience Was Great!
Procedure specific satisfaction rating
When one person tells another they're considering getting lip fillers, the thing that most commonly comes to mind are those huge, swollen, 'duck bill' lips. The truth of the matter is, most people you see with those huge swollen pouts have had more than one syringe of injectable filler. However, it's also possible that the person simply had larger lips to begin with and likely didn't need lip injections. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with lips that look a little swollen, in fact, I would likely make my lips more plump than they are if I could afford it!
The reason I’m mentioning this, is because in most cases, one syringe of Juvederm contains only 1 cc. (Always be sure to ask how much the syringe includes because you want to make sure you are getting your money’s worth). 1 cc of filler is unlikely to greatly increase the size of your lips. (However, keep in mind I am not a professional) You will have fuller lips from 1 cc, but they won't look overdone from this amount of filler. This piece of information can make or break a person’s decision to go through with lip augmentation. Some might not be able to afford the multiple syringes it may take to achieve the look they desire, and will end up being disappointed with the result. Others will find this fact reassuring, and feel more at ease getting the procedure performed.
I decided to try a new office for my most recent injections. Premier Plastic Surgery of Wexford, PA. The office, lobby, and waiting areas were gorgeous! You did not feel like you were in a doctor’s office, but rather a fancy spa (which they offer as well)!
I had a short ten minute wait, and then I was brought back to the patient room. Their Physician Assistant, Zakery Koban, is the main person who injects fillers at Premier Plastic Surgery. I was very surprised by his bedside manner! He never once made me feel rushed - actually, just the opposite! He took a lot of time listening to my past experiences with cosmetic surgery. He even patiently looked at some pictures I had on my phone of myself after previous lip injection procedures and I could show him the things I had liked and had not liked as much. I explained that I preferred when my upper lip was “lifted” a bit, instead of just filled straight on. I wasn’t quite sure how to explain it, but along with the photographs I showed him, he seemed to clearly understand what I was talking about and proceeded to tell me his plan on how he was going to inject my lips. He suggested Juvederm Ultra XC, and I’ve always used Juvederm in the past, so I agreed.
To start my procedure, Zakery asked if I would like some topical numbing cream. I declined, as I find the pain of lip fillers to be mild. Juvederm XC has a small trace of lidocaine in it anyways, so I didn't experience any discomfort. He injected my lips very carefully, explaining what he was doing the whole time. He also took great time massaging and almost “molding” my lips. I believe excess time was taken to ensure I got the “lifted” upper lip that I said I preferred. I was very pleased with my whole experience at their office!
Later that night my lips became swollen, as expected. I developed two small bruises on my upper lip, which again is nothing unheard of. The night of the injections is when the swelling was at its worst. I used an ice pack for 15 minutes every hour and used Arnicare as desired. The next morning, the swelling had decreased and continued to do so until about 5 days after the procedure. The little bruising I had, lasted around 5 days as well. Each day it became more faint. I am now 19 days post-procedure and I am very happy with how my lips settled and their appearance! I will definitely be going back to Premier Plastic Surgery in the future!
For me, having a very thin upper lip has always been an insecurity of mine. I have found confidence in getting my lips injected around 1-2 times a year. Lip filler does fade, as it is absorbed by your body. Personally, I find my fillers last around 3-4 months. Doctors will say 6-9 or 9-12, depending on who you speak with. Fun Fact - the more injections you get over time, the longer they will last. Fillers can even stimulate natural collagen production in your lips! If the fading isn’t enough to have you rest at ease, you should also know that the results are reversible with an injection of a substance that dissolves the filler (since filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance your body naturally produces)!
As with any cosmetic procedure, permanent or temporary, the best advice I can give, is to do it for yourself and no one else! It's your body and you should do what you want with it.
