18 Year Old Rhinoplasty Review, Photos, Videos, Cost and Post-Op Experience
My name is Maureen Kirkpatrick, and I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am only 18 years old, but throughout my life I have had a broken nose 8 times! Over time, a bump started to form on my nose from all the time I had broken it. You couldn’t really tell from the front, but my profile was awful (to me). I hated when anyone looked at me or took pictures of me from the side, and I thought about my nose constantly. I was extremely self-conscious and insecure. I knew that plastic surgery was only way I could fix my nose, so I decided to look for a doctor. I scheduled a consultation with a rhinoplasty surgeon and the surgeon said I had to wait until I was sixteen or seventeen years old before having my procedure done. So the summer of 2016, I was finally able to get my rhinoplasty (17 years old). My doctor, Dr. Joseph Falcon (located in Natrona Heights, PA), who is a plastic surgeon, was very understanding of what I wanted. He told me he was going to shave off the bump and then thin out my nose. He also looked at my septum and determined I did not have a deviated septum. I wasn’t that nervous leading up to my surgery, mostly just excited. The surgery went well, but to be honest, the week following was awful. I had packing up my nose and a cast on, and it was extremely uncomfortable. The pain only lasted about three days, and then it was solely discomfort. The worst part is only being able to breathe through your mouth, so be thankful to breathe through your nose! Personally, my bruising wasn’t that bad. My eyelids and under eyes were yellow, but it was nothing terrible. The swelling hurt when it pushed up against my cast, but icing helps. I kept ice on my face all week to make it better. Finally, after a very long week, I got the cast off and the packing taken out. I wasn’t very happy with my nose at first. It was still extremely swollen, so it was hard to tell what the results were. The side still had a little bump, and the front looked a little fat. But after a month most of the swelling was gone, and I started to love my nose. Now, almost a year later, I could not be happier with my decision to get a rhinoplasty. I had waited a long time for my new nose and I was finally happy with it. Having a different nose has honestly changed my life. I feel so much more confident! I am also very thankful because I did not have to pay for the procedure and did not require a revision rhinoplasty. My insurance covered it since I had medical records of breaking my nose multiple times. Had that not been the case, the procedure would have been around $4,000.
I've included photos and a video of my experience getting a rhinoplasty. You can how what my nose looked like before and after surgery. Hope this helps anyone considering getting a nose job. Good luck to you in your search for a great doctor! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
