My name is Diana and I was born in 1997. A few months ago, I made possibly the biggest decision that I have ever had to make. I underwent a rhinoplasty procedure which is known as a nose job. Let's start with the very beginning of my story…

Throughout my entire childhood, I have had a very difficult time accepting myself and my nose. It was my biggest insecurity. However, I have always believed that if you do not like something, change it, and it was time to apply this theory to my nose.

When I turned nineteen years old, I finally had the courage and decided to get my nose fixed. I had waiting a long time to make this decision. There are many people who fear plastic surgery and live with their insecurities rather than fixing them, but for me that was not the case.

As soon as I found the right plastic surgeon, I booked my surgery for October 30th, 2016. I remember being very anxious and awake the night before the surgery because I was thinking to myself “ what if the surgery gives me a completely different nose and turns me into a different person?” and “ what if I'm not myself anymore? “ That was my biggest concern and I feared not being myself anymore because I liked how I looked, but wished to be a “ better “ version of me. However, I tried to remind myself how much I have wanted the surgery.

The next morning I got ready and went to the hospital with my mom at 9 a.m. At around 10 a.m. I had a blood and allergy test and anyone that knows me knows that I fear needles a lot. Afterwards, I was brought to my room and had to wait until they brought me to the operating room. At 11 a.m, they put the needle with the saline bag in my arm (for hydration) and one hour later I was brought to surgery.

I only remember the doctors talking to me before I was put under general anesthesia. When I woke up after the surgery, I could barely talk and my throat was very dry. I did also throw up but that was a common side effect of the anesthesia and after a couple hours of sleep, I was allowed to go home.

A lot of people might think that my bruising and swelling were very bad, which I agree with, but my case was very rare. After the 2nd day, I was terrified of the way I looked and could barely see. I didn't have any pain, but I was very uncomfortable. Sleeping, eating, taking showers and even talking was challenging. The tampons inside my nose, which prevent your nose from bleeding, made it very uncomfortable since I could not breathe through them. Fortunately, they were removed the 2nd day and this was really painful but such a relief. A few days later, I noticed my eyes were bloodshot but the swelling was getting better.

Approximately five weeks after surgery,I was back to normal which usually takes only 1-2 weeks. Rhinoplasty changed my life for the better and I do not regret a day of suffering from my recovery. I'm very thankful I picked a great doctor and love my new nose!

If you're considering a rhinoplasty, good luck and I hope you get the results you're looking for!
