Breast augmentation - Silicone breast implants
Hi, my name is Theodora and I am 22-year-old mother of a 1 year old. After having my child, I experienced a hard time accepting the changes pregnancy did to my body. After about 5 months of breastfeeding, my breasts were entirely ruined (sagging, excess skin) and that was one thing I could not look past. I came to accept my stretch marks but I could not accept the changes that occurred to my breasts. I knew that plastic surgery was the only way to restore my breasts and regain my self-confidence.
I knew two people who had breast augmentation surgery and I loved their results. I decided to start looking for a plastic surgeon to help me with the damage that had been caused to my once nice, natural breasts. I didn't search too hard for a doctor. At my initial consult with plastic surgeon Dr. Christine Blaine in Long Island City, NY, I instantly fell in love with her and knew at that very moment that I would trust my life in her hands. She explained everything to me step-by-step and even informed me of the disadvantages of this procedure.
Shortly after I left Dr. Blaine's office, I booked my surgery. I was very happy that I was finally taking the steps to fix my breasts. A few days prior to surgery I received a call that brought me to tears. One of Dr. Blaine's nurses had called me to let me know that my iron levels were way too low and that they needed to cancel my surgery date. Over the following 11 months, I received the same phone call 6 times. After the 5th call, I was referred to a hematologist who told me to monitor my iron and have surgery when it went back up. This made me very frustrated and out of anger, I asked for my refund and they did not hesitate one bit to do so. I never went to the hematologist's office to pick up the check, because I knew if I had the money in my hand with no plan on how to spend it, it would have vanished very quick on a vacation.
After that incident, I decided I would look elsewhere to figure out my iron issues. I started to consider doctors in the Dominican Republic. I figured since their surgery standards were lower than the US, they'd be willing to do my surgery under a 12 hemoglobin. I found a few doctors who were willing to work with me, and a few that even offered to pay for a blood transfusion a day prior to having the surgery. As I thought about it, it turned me off on how much they wanted my money and were willing to put my life on line to obtain it. I finally said to myself that if going to have a cosmetic procedure, I was going to do it the correct way. I was not going to put my life in danger for aesthetics. I changed my diet and consistently took my iron supplements for a whole two weeks and I saw great results.
It was finally time for my procedure. I arrived early in the morning and was taken to a pre-op room. I had an IV inserted into my arm to administer fluids and then I was off to the operating room. I was knocked out using general anesthesia and before I knew it, I woke up in the post-op recovery room with a bandage around my breasts. My surgery was a success. I had regular silicone implants (not gummy bear shaped implants) inserted through an incision at the base of my breasts. The implants were inserted under my pectoral muscle, which is done to prevent capsular contracture, or the build up of scar tissue around my implants.
Now that it's been some time since my procedure, I can honestly say that I'm very happy with my results. My recovery time was not very extensive. I had the usual swelling one would expect after surgery but it went smoothly. I still have stretch marks on breasts, but I am quite happy with the way they look. They're very soft, but still firm and perky. While I don't think my breasts will ever return to the way they were before I had my child, my new boobs still look great. Dr. Blaine was amazing throughout my entire experience. She made sure I knew she was always a simple call or drive away if I ever needed her. I would highly recommend her to anyone else considering breast augmentation surgery. For those of you wondering, my procedure cost $5900.
I have a video of my experience below this review.
