Procedure review

My name is Saba Jawaid and I am 21 years old. I live in Markham and underwent an open rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery by Dr. Ron Wallman.

For the longest time, I’ve wanted to get a rhinoplasty. Growing up I suffered self-esteem issues for having a huge bump on my nose and I wanted to get it fixed as soon as I could afford it. A friend of mine from high school got a rhinoplasty and I was very curious about her process and which doctor she went to because her nose looks amazing. She recommended plastic surgeon Dr. Ron Wallman. I did my research on Dr. Ron Wallman and booked a consultation immediately.

When I met Dr. Wallman, right away he guided me through everything he would do with my nose and told me what kind of rhinoplasty I needed to get the results I desired. I trusted his suggestions and what he had told me during the consultation. He seemed very knowledgeable on the topic of rhinoplasties. At the end of my consultation, I booked the surgery for the earliest date possible.

Leading up to my surgery date, both Dr. Wallman and his staff prepared me for surgery. They went over the details of the procedure, took before/after photos and told me how to prepare for the day of my operation.

The night before my procedure I had to fast. I was so excited the following morning I woke up unusually early. I headed to the surgical center, which luckily was inside Dr. Wallman's practice (the same building where my consultation took place) in Markham. This meant I didn't have to go to a hospital and recovery would be in the same building, which made me feel extra comfortable. The nurse and doctors were very welcoming and made sure I was comfortable as they provided me a robe and socks. Right before the surgery, they hooked me up to the IV and gave me my medication. Next thing I know, I was strapped onto the surgery table with the anesthesia doctor next to me and I had a deep sleep once the anaesthesia was put into my IV tube.

When I woke up, I was in recovery with full bandages on my face. I was in a little pain but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t bare. I was still a little disoriented from the anesthesia but it was totally normal. After two hours in recovery, I was sent home to rest for 1-2 weeks before the bandages could be removed.

Recovery was not much of a pain at all. I did throw up blood multiple times, but that is also normal because a tube was put down my throat during the operation so I could breathe and during the process, I had swallowed blood. Other than that, I would have to change my gauze right under my nostrils known as my “drippage pad” for any blood, sit upright while I slept and ice my nose to help with the healing and bruising.

The following week, I got my bandages removed and was shocked with the results. Yes, the bump on my nose was gone but because I was extremely swollen I was very skeptical about the way I looked. My doctor reassured me that a regular open rhinoplasty will need a year’s time to heal, so I knew I had to be really patient with my results. I cannot stress enough how patient you need to be with the results. You will heal and the swelling will go down.

Overtime, I started noticing great results with the swelling going down and the bruises and scar under my nose were finally healed at the 4-6 month mark. I will get to see the final results in January 2019, which is one year from surgery date of January 2018.

I do not regret my surgery and I couldn’t be happier with the choice I made. The total cost of the surgery was $6250. I am very confident with my new nose and I recommend a rhinoplasty to anyone who feels he or she need/want one!
