Procedure review

I was really hoping that I wouldn't need fillers after getting Botox injections. Although realistically, I knew at my age (43), it would be unlikely to fix the wrinkles I had on my face, especially around my eyes. I was a little afraid to get filler injections because I didn't want that overly full-looking face some people have after they get dermal fillers. The so called 'chipmunk face.' I also didn't want to continue look at my wrinkly face, so I was eventually pushed to go ahead and get Belotero injections.

I had my injections done at the Aesthetic Rejuvenation Center in New Jersey. The injections themselves are a bit different than other fillers, like Restylane, which come with lidocaine to make the injections less painful. I think this is because Belotera is a much thinner filler, which requires a smaller needle and makes it less painful to inject. Dr. Fruend was kind enough to mix some lidocaine into my Belatero injections for added comfort anyway. He told me that he didn't understand why a doctor wouldn't want to make his/her patients more comfortable by adding lidocaine. He also said some of this had to do with the fact that fillers with lidocaine are a bit more expensive than those without it. In my opinion, making your patients more comfortable, and getting them to return to your office, is more important than being penny-wise and dollar-foolish.

Before my procedure began, the injection sites were numbed with topical lidocaine. Then it was time to get injected! The injections didn't hurt anymore than Botox. I didn't experience any pain, only a very mild pressure-like discomfort when the needle went through my skin. I needed one syringe of filler and that was it (filler goes by the syringe, not the unit). You purchase the syringe and that syringe is yours, no matter how much or little you end up using.

I didn't experience any adverse effects after my injections. I had slight redness for a little while post-injection, but didn't suffer any allergies or get the dreaded Tyndall effect, where your skin looks blue because the filler was injected too superficially.

My results were like magic! Belotera is like a magic eraser for your face. I can't believe the results I have. It's like my wrinkles have simply disappeared. I used to hate to look at photos of myself from the side because I could see all the wrinkles next to my eyes. Now, they're finally gone! I feel like it's a miracle. And I don't look like a chipmunk either. My injector gave me the perfect amount filler and I didn't feel unnatural afterward. I just look more refreshed, youthful and my skin is smoother. My husband told me it's like my face was Facetuned. I would have filler injected again in a heartbeat. Injectable fillers usually last anywhere from 3 to 8 months, depending on how quickly your body metabolized the hyaluronic acid the filler is composed of. I will absolutely be going back for another syringe of filler when it wears off and this was the best thing I've done for myself. I'm so much happier and enjoy having photos taken again, without the worry of seeing my ugly facial wrinkles!
