Breast Reduction Review. From a 32H to Full C Cup. Cost, Pictures and Videos.
Procedure specific satisfaction rating
My name is Racheli and I am 23 years old. I live in Los Angeles, California and recently had a breast reduction surgery done by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Burr von Maur at Cosmeticare in Newport Beach, California. I believe the procedures total costs are close to $8,000, but I opened an account with Care Credit and financed my surgery, interest free, for the next two years.
Before my surgery I had very large breasts. I was a 32H cup and I'm only 5’1. I have had severe neck pain, back pain and shoulder pain from my bra's straps holding up my heavy breasts. My breast size often caused me physical discomfort. Having breast reduction surgery was something I had been wanting since I was a young girl and I finally gave in and realized just how badly I needed it!
For my consultation, I visited Cosmeticare and met with the patient representative. She had their team make a simulation of what my boobs could look like after, which was amazing. I didn’t feel like I was going in totally blind. I didn’t meet with my doctor until my pre-op appointment which was just two days before my surgery. This was because of how busy my schedule was.
I had a great experience with my doctor. I felt comfortable with the fact that he does the surgeries in the Cosmeticare surgery center which has great medical staff. I knew I was in good hands after doing plentiful research- which I highly recommend doing before you let anyone cut you open! I'm excited to see the full transformation soon. My doctor/Cosmeticare also give you scar treatments, which are included in the price for the overall surgery. This helps prevent any scar tissue formation. I will begin these treatments once I am fully healed at about 8 weeks’ post-surgery, I believe.
Th procedure itself went well. I arrived at the surgery center early in the morning, spoke with the nurses and anesthesiologists and before I knew it, I was waking up from general anesthesia and the procedure was over. When I woke up, I was wearing a surgical bra, that had lots of gauze stuffed into it. I also had drains coming out of my breasts to collect excess fluid.
When I got home, I had to sleep propped up, so that I didn't roll on to my breasts and damage my breast tissue. My drains collected fluid for two days, but the output never went above 25ccs, so they were removed after two days. I also had pain, which the pain medication helped with.
I did, however, have some complications from the surgery. Because I had previously undergone chemotherapy (bleomycin) for cancer, I had a higher risk for blood clots. Post-surgery, I had some trouble breathing and my doctor got nervous that it was being caused by blood clots. I spent seven hours in the ER being monitored by a pulmonologist, just to make sure my lungs were not being damaged by any blood clots. I was placed on blood thinners to prevent clotting. I was also given a combination of antibiotics, which gave me a rash. I had to discontinue the bactrim antibiotic because of that.
I also had post-surgery depression. I was miserable from being uncomfortable and laying in bed for long periods of time. Fortunately, it eventually passed.
Overall, I am very happy with my results. My breasts are a bit larger than I was hoping but hopefully that's just swelling. My doctor told me they should shrink 10% once all the swelling and bruising dissipates. My experience was very quick- I scheduled the surgery just two months after my initial consultation. I’m now three weeks’ post surgery and I’m feeling good! I am sleeping on my side and can lift to 5lbs. I have to wait three more weeks to lift anything over 5lbs. I have tape covering my incisions but I had it replaced at my post op appointment. My incisions look great and my doctor says they are healing well! I have no signs of complications or infections. I still have a bit of swelling and will hopefully be a full C once all the swelling goes down! I highly recommend that if you are even considering a breast reduction/lift to look into it, because it was best thing for me and it will benefit my comfort and health for the rest of my life!
