Procedure review

A fat freezing miracle treatment or a scam? That's what I said to myself when I was considering Coolsculpting. It's an expensive treatment, so it wasn't an easy decision to have the Coolsculpting procedure performed. I value my money and my time.

How Does Coolsculpting Work?

Coolsculpting works by using a cooling applicator with suction to freeze your fat cells. The machine sucks your fat in and then cools it down to a temperature that compromises the membrane of your fat cells. This causes them to explode and then your body excretes the fat over time. Some of my close friends joke around that Coolsculpting is pretty much a combination of ice and a vacuum. In reality, ice would likely cause your skin to burn and wouldn't lead to much fat reduction.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for Coolsculpting?

Coolsculping is meant for people with a small amount of stubborn fat that could potentially be lost through diet and exercise but are too lazy! (like me) It's a quick fix and who doesn't want that these days? It's important to note that Coolsculpting is not the same as liposuction. Coolsculpting is a non-invasive fat removal device and liposuction is an invasive fat reduction treatment. You will not have any scars from Coolsculpting, but will have very small scars from the liposuction probe that inserted under your skin to remove fat tissue.

Why I Wanted Coolsculpting?

I fall under the group of 'I'm fit but too lazy to push myself to the point that I was able to remove the unwanted fat that annoyed me through diet and exercise." I have a sweet tooth and find it really hard to resist ice cream and candy. What can I say, this life isn't a rehearsal!

What Areas Did I Have Treated?

My problem areas were my flanks, lower and upper abdomen. I had far from a muffin top but did have some fat bulges that I hated.

What Did It Feel Like During Your Coolsculpting Treatment?

The two worst parts of my treatment were when the protective gel was placed on my skin (it was so cold), and when the machine was turned on and it sucked my fat into the applicator. When the machine sucked my fat in it felt so cold and I experienced some pain for a few minutes. After the first 5 minutes, the treatment was pleasant. I watched TV and read a magazine while being treated.

How Much Did Your Coolsculpting Treatment Cost?

I paid $6500 for 2 treatment sessions that were 2 hours each. The Coolsculpting applicator was left on each treatment area for 1 hour (I think newer applicators take 1/2 the amount of time).

What Was Your Coolsculpting Recovery Like?

There wasn't much to recover from after my Coolsculpting treatment. I was bruised for a week and red for 2-3 days. I was able to resume all of my normal activities immediately after my treatment. I also experienced some numbness for 2-3 days and then it went away.

Thoughts on Coolsculpting?

My final thoughts about Coolsculpting are that it doesn't offer dramatic results but does slightly improve the treated areas. I had very modest results but some of my friends swear by it. I have personally had 5 friends who did Coolsculpting and they all tell me they've had amazing results. That was not the case for me. Who knows - hopefully it works for you!
