Coolsculpting Treatment to Flanks and Abdominal Area Review - Cost, Photos and Video
Sam Robinson - CoolSculpting Treatment
Done at The West Institute in Chevy Chase, MD.
I had excess fat that I've always hated and looked into fat reduction treatments to solve my issue. One of those treatments was Cryolipolysis, more commonly know as Coolsculpting. Coolsculpting is known as a non-invasive procedure to eliminate stubborn fat from your flanks, abs, inner and outer thighs and under your chin. It works by freezing fat cells, which causes cell death of those cells and absorption of those dead cells by your body.
For my Coolsculpting treatment, I decided to consult with The West Institute in Chevy Chase, Maryland. My consultation experience at The West Institute was overall very pleasurable. Their office was very comfortable and professional. From the moment I walked into the waiting room, it was obvious I had found the right place for my treatment. I received my consult the same day as my procedure and was happy with the price. It was $2500 total for two treatment areas of my lower abs and two side flanks. They even have a deal, where if you have more than one area done the second area gets a percentage off, which was great. Originally, I only came in for the for abdominal area but during the consult I was told that I’d benefit overall from having my flanks done as well. Now that I've healed, I must agree that there was a big difference in my flanks after the treatment.
The West Institute had 5 different size treatment applicators and some are faster than others. The applicators attach to a large machine with a snowflake on it (Zeltiq's logo - they own the Coolsculpting brand). Depending on which one is picked for you, each area can take 30 minutes to 1 hour. I was there being treated for a total of 7 hours, including my consult and it was definitely exhausting. The Coolsculpting treatment itself is not supposed to be a very comfortable experience. It's not a trip to the spa. However, The West Institute had so many blankets, pillows and amenities to try and make it as comfortable as they could. If your treatment session causes them to stay open past closing, they have no problem doing so. The massaging section of the procedure totally scared me because of all I have read about it. It was no doubt the most painful thing of the whole ordeal. It is only a minute long per section but it feels like forever. The flanks are also the WORST in comparison to the front and I did sustain a scary amount of bruising shown in the picture below but all that is normal. We are fat freezing here, so I was expecting some recovery time! I sadly was one of the rare unlucky few who did suffer from late onset nerve pain and needed to call in for prescription medicine to make the pain bearable while the fat cells dissolved. It was handled professionally and by 1 month post-op, I could see a difference after the swelling and tenderness subsided.
In my opinion, Coolsculpting works but you need to be patient. The results from non-invasive fat reduction are not going to be as dramatic as liposuction, or other surgical procedures, but it also doesn't come with the same risks as those procedures. You also need to be a great candidate for the procedure to work best for you.If you're very overweight, Coolsculpting will not work well for you. You'll have need some weight loss before having the procedure done. Even if you are the ideal weight, most people require multiple treatments for the desired fat reduction to occur. A single treatment will not give you the results you want. Unwanted fat in certain areas will also be more difficult to treat than in other areas. Non-invasive body contouring is not a miracle procedure, but it has definitely helped with my belly and love handles. I highly recommend it.
