Due to pregnancy I had a lot of stretch marks on my stomach and flanks. I hated it. Being 26 and living in Florida by the beaches, it was hard for me to get passed the fact that these things happen when you have a baby. I was not willing to accept the fact that I would have stretch marks on my once nice skin tone. I decided to look into laser treatments and light chemical peels to fix my skin. After reading a number of reviews on Google about different types of lasers, mild peels, deep chemical peels, etc. that could treat uneven skin tone and stretch marks, I finally settled on looking into medium depth peels, particularly the trichloroacetic acid peel (TCA). TCA peels are frequently used to reduce discoloration, improve fine lines, melasma and stretch marks, so I figured it would be great for me. I began looking for a doctor or esthetician that could give me this treatment.

I searched and found Estetika Skin and Laser Specialists in Sarasota, Florida. I visited them and found out a TCA peel would cost $150 per treatment and they recommended coming back for additional treatments for good results. I decided to do it. For the peel, they prepped my stomach (where my stretch marks are) by cleaning it with a cleaning solution. They then rubbed the chemical solution that makes your skin peel onto my stomach. I felt a slight stinging sensation, but I also have very sensitive skin. They blew cold air on my stomach while the peel was being applied, which made it much more bearable. After 15 minutes, the peel was done and a neutralizer was applied. After that, I was ready to go home. The esthetician told me that I should wear sunscreen to prevent my skin from getting a sunburn in the powerful Florida sun. Getting a sunburn while the outer, protective layer of your skin is falling off could lead to sun damage, so I was extra careful to make sure I had plenty of SPF 45 sun protection on.

Over the next week, my skin began to peel heavily and my skin began to fall off. As the dead skin began to fall off, I could see a much more vibrant layer of new skin forming and was very happy. After two weeks, the peeling began to stop, revealing nice new skin.

This first treatment completely changed my life. I saw amazing results and I could feel my confidence coming back. I have considered deeper peels for more dramatic results, but the stronger the peel, the more they sting when they're applied to your skin and the longer the recovery time. The esthetician told me I should have a peel once a month, and since my initial peel, I've returned for two more! I highly recommend getting a peel if you're suffering from stretch marks that you don't like!
