Dr. Zemmel Took Great Care to Meet My Specific Bodybuilder Needs
Breast augmentation - Silicone breast implants
I’m a bodybuilder with a thin frame and smallish breast size. I’d been wanting a breast augmentation for over a decade, but I was worried about whether or not it would look natural. With Dr. Neil Zemmel’s help, I was able to find the perfect size and fit for my specific needs.
Finding Dr. Zemmel
When I turned 30, I was like, “it’s time.” I’d waited a really long time for a breast augmentation procedure and I was going to finally do this for myself. I just needed to find the right plastic surgeon.
I wanted a breast augmentation surgeon I could trust - someone with a really good bedside manner who would take my concerns seriously and make me feel comfortable. Finally, I wanted someone who had my best interests in mind and wasn’t going to push me to make a decision that I wasn’t ready for. Honestly, I thought that would be really hard to find these days, but I found all those qualities in Dr. Zemmel.
I learned about Dr. Zemmel a few years ago through other patients, all of whom said he was fantastic. I took it upon myself to research him, going on Zwivel and looking at reviews. I even went in for a free consultation at the time, but I wasn’t quite ready yet.
Fast forward a little bit, and I was ready to take the plunge. I sent photos to Dr. Zemmel to get the ball rolling, and he touched bases with me.
The Consultation Process
It took us a little while to get to surgery day. As a bodybuilder, I have an in-season and out-of-season weight. To be honest, I’m pretty thin throughout the year, so any weight loss or gain is minimal, but it does change my look enough that I was worried about getting implants. I didn’t want a natural breast shape for only half the year and an unnatural one for the rest.
Dr. Zemmel completely understood and worked with me to find the right look. We had one consultation during the season, two more out-of-season, and a third back in-season when I was coming right off of a show. This way, he could see all of my “states.” He had no problem taking his time and helping me find a look that was pretty, natural and made me look more feminine.
During these consultations, we talked options, going over all the different types of implants from silicone implants to saline implants to what’s called the “gummy bear implant.” We really talked extensively about all the options and implant placement pretty much every time I saw him. Eventually, we settled on silicone gel implants because it had the most natural drop and the most natural feel.
I’m no stranger to surgery - I had double jaw surgery about seven years ago. I thought I knew what to expect, but I actually remember the jaw surgery being very different. My breast augmentation surgery was way more positive.
Two weeks before the surgery, they told me what to expect and even filled my pain meds and antibiotics, so I’d have them ready after the procedure. They also gave me some material to read. I really felt prepared. So already it was shaping up to be a positive experience.
When I got there on surgery day, the nurse was exceptionally nice. She made me feel very calm. She went over everything. I really can’t say enough good things about her.
During this time, I was prepped. They put me in this suit filled with warm air. It felt amazing. In general, I don’t really remember any pain, not while getting anesthesia or even just after the surgery.
During the surgical procedure, Dr. Zemmel took care to reduce noticeable scarring. I had a benign tumor removed from my right breast when I was 16, and he used that scar for the breast augmentation incision to prevent creating a fresh one. He also made the left breast’s scar identical to it.
While I was getting my cosmetic surgery, they were even great to my husband. They made him feel really comfortable and kept him informed. Everything just went so smoothly and felt very much “in and out.”
They told me that I’d be pretty sore the next day, and I was. Really, the first couple of days were pretty tough. My husband had to open jars for me and other things, so I wasn’t using my chest muscles too much. He had to help me out of bed too. You really don’t realize how much you need your pectoral muscles until you can’t use them.
I experienced some swelling, but recovery was quick and smooth. I chalk some of that up to the fact that I’m in really good shape - I think that helps the healing process. To that effect, I didn’t notice any bruising at all. I was back in the gym doing cardio after about three and a half weeks and suffered no ill effects.
I’m perfectly pleased with the whole experience and the final result. I wouldn’t do anything differently. Well, maybe I’d take a couple more days off of work, but that’s it.
My breasts look great and totally natural. I got the procedure out-of-season in September of 2017. I’m in-season now, and they still look phenomenal. The scarring is minimal. The scars just look like two tiny wrinkles.
I recommend Dr. Zemmel 1000x over. He and his staff are amazing. You can tell that he hires people similar to himself, because they are all so kind and knowledgeable. I absolutely wish I’d done this sooner.
You Pay For What You Get
I’m a firm believer in this. I paid $8,000 for my silicone breast implants and they were worth every penny. Breast augmentation patients should remember that plastic surgery isn’t cheap. Go in with that in mind and find a doctor who shares your vision. Make sure they see what you’re seeing, and visit them a few times so that you both can see the big picture.
