Experience of a 22 Year Old Getting a Rhinoplasty! Cost, Videos and Pictures Too!
My name is Ashley Kim. I recently had a rhinoplasty done on Jan 27th, 2017. I live in Paducah, KY and had my surgery at Renaissance Plastic Surgery in Western Baptist hospital, which is in Paducah Kentucky and Dr. Daniel Tkach performed my rhinoplasty. Dr. Tkach is a board certified plastic surgeon, who specializes in rhinoplasties. I am currently 25 years old, but at the time of my surgery, I was 24. I have wanted to have a rhinoplasty ever since I broke my nose when I was about ten years old. Before I had a broken nose, I never had a problem with it or thought about surgery. Unfortunately, when I was 10 years old I was playing soccer and was hit very hard in the face with the soccer ball. This made the bone in my nose crooked and look very different than before. The bone on the left side stuck out further than the right side and it looked as if I had a bump on my nose. As I got older, the bone started to stick out more and became sharper. I hated the way my nose looked, I did not like the way I looked in pictures, especially pictures that were taken from the side, and I wanted to change it. I was very self-conscious about the way it looked. When I was about 22 years old, I decided it was time to start saving my money for the procedure and it took me about 2 years to save up for the entire procedure, which was $6,000.
After I graduated from college, I finally had enough saved up to get the procedure done. I wanted to find the right doctor so I researched on the internet plastic surgeons in my area. I wasn’t sure which one I should use though. My father is also a doctor and recommended I use Dr.Tkach, who had previously done my step mothers nose job several years before. I went to his website and saw before and after pictures of other patients he had done. I really liked what I saw and thought he did a very good job. He seemed like an expert rhinoplasty surgeon, which is what I was looking for. After looking at the pictures, I called his office and made an appointment for a consultation.
At the consultation, Dr. Tkach was very polite and professional. I showed him pictures of what I would like my nose to look like and showed him what I did not like about my nose. He then took pictures of my nose and showed me on the pictures what he would recommend and what he could change. I paid $60 for the consultation, but that was applied to my surgery. I wanted to have my surgery as soon as possible. Luckily, they were able to fit me in about 2 weeks after my consultation.
The surgery itself went very well. I had no complications. The first two days were the hardest because of the uncomfortable gauze I had up my nose. I did not have pain. After two days, the gauze was taken out and I felt much better. One week later, I got my stitches removed, and then a week after that the cast was removed and I could see my nose. Though it was still swollen, I already loved the was my nose looked. I also used Arnica Cream, ice packs and kept my head elevated to help with bruising and swelling. I'm not sure how much the Arnica cream actually helped, but I did apply it to the bruises around my eyes.
I am so much more confident with my new nose. I used to hate having pictures taken, but now I love it! I do not regret the surgery one bit. Dr. Tkach did a great job and listened to all my needs and concerns. Everyone in his office was very polite and professional as well. I'm glad I found a great doctor, who was able to give me the nose I wanted a long time for! I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a good plastic surgeon. Whether you're looking for a completely different nose or just a small improvement, do your research to find a great doctor and good luck with your rhinoplasty journey!
