Experience Getting Volbella Lip Injections: Costs, Pictures and a Video
Hi, I'm Julia and I'm from Los Angeles, CA. I thought about getting lip injections for months before visiting Dr. Sadaat at his office in Burbank. My bottom lip has always been relatively full but I felt that my top lip was thin in comparison and I was hoping to even out the proportions. I also wished to add a bit of volume to both my upper and lower lip. I decided to go ahead with the procedure and choose the Skin and Beauty Center because it was conveniently close to where I live and had been referred to me by a friend at work. The only cosmetic procedure I had ever had prior to this was Botox, but I had never received fillers of any sort. It was extremely easy to make an appointment and the office staff was very pleasant. With this being my first time, I was nervous.
The staff was very helpful in answering any questions I had before my procedure regarding pain, cost, and recovery. The cost depends largely on which filler you choose and how many syringes are used to achieve the desired results. I chose Juvederm Volbella, a relatively new product that is part of the Juvederm family of dermal fillers made by Allergan, because a friend of mine had gotten it previously and had positive results. The cost for Volbella is $600 per syringe, and I used two syringes. I did receive a discount because this was my first visit.
On the day of my procedure, Dr. Sadaat and his assistant walked me through what to expect and we discussed the results I wanted to achieve. I had brought some photos of what I liked and Dr. Sadaat was very realistic and honest with the results he could achieve. He suggested that I start with a conservative amount of product, and if I wanted more prospectively we could reevaluate in a few weeks. Since this was my first time getting lip injections, I thought this was a wise and honest suggestion. I felt completely comfortable and at ease. I was hoping to achieve subtle and very natural results. I felt like I was in complete control and truly felt like I was in good hands. Dr. Sadaat told me that most fillers contain the same main ingredient - hyaluronic acid. He explained that hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body. I researched Volbella and apparently it has patented Vycross technology, which is a blend of different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid that gives you longer lasting results. Volbella is used for the lips, cheeks and fine lines around the mouth, so I figured it was perfect for me.
Prior to beginning my procedure, Dr. Sadaat assured me that the results did not have to be permanent if I was unhappy with them for any reason. There is an injectable solution that completely dissolves the filler and my lips would return to their natural state immediately. Otherwise, I was told that I could expect the results to last about 6 months. Numbing cream was applied to my lips and it took about 10 minutes to work completely. This was the most uncomfortable part of the procedure to me because some got in my mouth and made my teeth feel numb, like a dental procedure. I experienced minimal discomfort when the needle was placed in the various injection sites on my lips. I was told by multiple friends that lip injections hurt badly but I didn't feel any pain. I would rate the pain a 1 out of 10 (10 being the most painful) at the injection site. My lips did start swelling almost immediately and I did experience some bruising, but was told to expect that. I was also told to wait about one week to see what the final results would look like. Most of the swelling subsided within a week but I did have some residual swelling for about another week. My lips felt mildly tender the day I had the procedure and fine by the following day (although still swollen).
I have been so pleased with my results. They have genuinely exceeded my expectations. Dr. Sadaat is an artist. Not one person, including my coworkers or friends knew I got lip injections (although I have been very open and honest about it and now all my friends want them too). The injections did not make my lips look weird at all. I have very natural-looking lips now, just fuller and better than my old lips! I am seriously obsessed with the way that they look. I feel much more confident in the appearance of my top lip especially when smiling. My only complaint is that it's been two months and the product has already dissolved significantly. I thought Volbella was supposed to produced long-lasting results, but I'm not seeing that. I am attaching photos of my before/after for reference.
I HIGHLY recommend this doctor and his staff. Again, my only complaint is that it is an expensive procedure and the results did not last as long as I had expected. This would be extremely pricey to repeat every other month. I have heard that your body metabolizes fillers more quickly the first time you receive them. I am hoping this is true and that my body will metabolize the product at a slower rate if have a Volbella procedure done again in the same area. I would like to get lip injections again and I plan on returning to the same facility. For a more detailed look at my experience, I've attached a video documenting my experience.
