Experience With Juvederm Lip Filler Injections Was Not Great Because It Didn't Last!
I started getting lip injections when I was 18 years old. I am now 24 and over the past 6 years, I have tried many brands of fillers. I have tried Restylane, Juvederm and Voluma. Of all the lip fillers I have tried, Voluma was the best (will post a link to my Voluma filler review below). Juvederm was the first lip filler I had injected at the age of 18 and also my first experience with lip augmentation. I always wanted fuller lips and this was my first attempt to do something about it.
Let me start off by saying I am one of those people who does not deal well with pain. For this reason, when I had my lips injected, I felt like topical numbing cream wouldn't be enough for me and asked for a full dental block prior to receiving my lip injections. The dental block seemed to do the trick and I didn't experience any pain during my injections.
Immediately after receiving my Juvederm injections, I was very happy. As the days went by though, my filler started to dissipate. With each passing day, my lips seemed to be a little less full. After only 7 days, my filler had completely disappeared and my lips had flattened. Knowing this wasn't normal, I went back to the clinic where I was injected (Copenhagen, Denmark) and received another round of lip injections. This time, my fillers lasted a little longer - 10 days! Yup, that's right. My fillers only lasted 10 days! When I went back to the clinic, they agreed that my fillers should have lasted much longer. The only opinion they could offer was that my body metabolized the filler extremely quickly. A bit suspicious of what they had told me, I decided to go to Liu Plastic Surgery in Los Gatos, CA. There, I also had Juvederm injected and was told that because I had a very thin upper lip, it was possible the clinic in Denmark simply did not inject enough filler. So I received my third round of Juvederm lip injections, which set me back $600. This time, my fillers lasted a little under a month. When I spoke with my doctor about my filler not lasting a long time, I was told that everytime you have filler injected, a small residue is left behind and that I would eventually, over time, build up permanent fuller lips. So I continued getting Juvederm injections until it was recommended I try another filler to see if would last longer. I did and with time, I found out that Voluma was the filler I needed all along!
Although Juvederm doesn't work as a lip filler for me, it is a very soft filler and did look nice on my lips while it lasted. It moved well with my lips and it didn't leave small bumps at the injection sites. I had a great doctor, so no complaints there, but Juvederm was simply not the right lip filler for me. For others, I'm sure it can work amazingly well.
