Experience With Obagi Cleanziderm and Retin A For My Acne
I have struggled with acne on and off for over 10 years and could never achieve completely clear skin. I had tried so many acne regimens from drugstore brands to even some of the most high end expensive brands with little to no success through the years. Most of the time my acne would flare up during my hormonal time of the month but in late 2016 my skin went downhill and nothing seemed to help. I had done so much research on skin care and I was always hopeful when trying a new “acne” product. I even tried the more natural route of tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar, again, with little success. My acne would clear up for a few days and then it would come back even worse.
It seemed like I was doing everything right, keeping my skin clean, drinking lots of water, changing my pillowcases frequently etc. My acne was very pronounced on my jawline and then proceeded to spread to my neck. Everything I had read online seemed to point to it being some type of hormonal imbalance. I was finally tired of wasting my money on products that weren’t working so I decided to go see a doctor.
When I was 16, I had gone to a dermatologist about my skin. I waited in the doctors office for what seemed to be an eternity for the Dr. to come in the room and spend 30 seconds looking at my skin and send me on my way with one prescription. Needless to say, I was very unhappy with the experience and that is why a chose a Medpsa clinic instead of dermatologist office this time around. I did some research on a few offices in my town and finally chose Rejuvenation Medspa and Vein Clinic in Asheboro, NC. They had a very informative website and offered what seemed to be a lot of options for acne patients.
I called the doctors office and they were able to get me an appointment within the week. This was around the end of September 2017. After struggling with really bad hormonal acne for at least a year I was very excited to see what the doctor would recommend. At this point I was open to anything, even medication.
When I arrived at the office, everyone was extremely friendly and pleasant and the office was clean and felt comfortable. I had to fill out some paperwork and then the doctor took a look at my skin and I told her my acne journey, what my current skin care routine was and all that I had tried. Dr. Chaudhary agreed that it seemed to be hormonal and started me on antibiotics for 30 days and spironolactone 25 mg. She also had me begin to introduce new skin care products into my routine. I started out with a glycolic acid cleanser and sunscreen and that is all I used for two weeks until my follow-up appointment.
By my next appointment, my skin had started to calm down and clear up a little. The doctor wanted to do a chemical peel since my skin was still very congested. Two weeks after my chemical peel, my skin had drastically changed since the first visit to her office. We incorporated a new moisturizer, the Obagi Cleanziderm Therapeutic Moisturizer and some Glycolic acid acne clearing pads. Another 2-3 weeks passed and by my next appointment my skin was looking even better but I was still getting some breakouts so my doctor decided to try Retin A. I was a little nervous but excited to try the Retin A because I really thought it would help but I was scared my skin would freak out. My doctor prescribed the lowest percentage of the Retin A 0.01% and that is when my skin really changed for the better. A lot of people, so I had read, had some dryness and redness associated with Retin A, so I took it slow only using it every other night mixed with my Obagi Moisturizer. My skin took so well to the Retin A. My skin texture was smoothed and the pigmentation from acne marks and scars slowly started to disappear. Over the course of the next couple of months, I stuck to my new skin care routine religiously. This was not an overnight miracle, but with consistent use of all the products my doctor recommended my skin had completely cleared up within 3 months and I no longer needed any medication.
I still use all of the products mentioned:
- Replenix Glycolic Acid Cleanser
- Replenix Glycolic Acid Acne Pads
- Retin A Gel 0.01%
- Obagi Cleanziderm Therapeutic Moisturizer
It’s a simple yet very effective skin care routine that has brought my skin to a place I’d never thought it would be.
All in all, I had an amazing experience taking the leap and going to see Dr. Chaudhary and I would highly recommend her office for any of your skin care needs/cosmetic procedure needs.
