I had heard a lot about Kybella and wanted to try it out because I’ve had fat pockets in my underarm area forever! Whenever I wore tighter tank tops, sports bras or even a sleeveless dress, you could see the pinch of skin sticking out and protruding upwards against the fabric of my clothing. I didn’t like how it looked and had been asking around for years about cosmetic procedures to correct it. The area also seemed to get worse after I had breast implant surgery because the breast tissue was now pushing outwards even more towards my armpits, creating more exposed skin in that area.

My friend, who is a physician’s assistant (PA-C), told me about Kybella (deoxycholic acid) and how it worked as a detergent to destroy fat cells and could be used in the underarm area. I was curious enough about this treatment, that I decided to give it a try and scheduled a consultation with my plastic surgeon.

I went to my plastic surgeon, Dr. Ridenour, at Ridenour Plastic Surgery in Saint Louis, Missouri. He confirmed that Kybella was a great treatment for stubborn armpit fat. I decided to have a treatment on the spot. I had 1 treatment of Kybella injections into my underarm area and over the course of the next 3-4 months, I noticed a remarkable difference, as you'll see in my before and after pictures.

Right after my Kybella injections (which are done very slowly and carefully placed), there was a bit of redness and soreness but nothing I couldn’t handle. Over the next 2 weeks, the area on both underarms began to harden and ball up, which I was told was normal. It seemed strange at first and I didn’t know if it was working but my doctor told me that this was normal. The hardness occurs due to the destruction of fat and the result is inflammation or swelling.

It's now been six months since my procedure and I am incredibly happy with my Kybella treatment. In fact, I would like to have another treatment in the near future. Typically, it can take 1-3 treatments to eliminate fat deposits with Kybella, whether it’s under your chin (submental fat), underarms or wherever else it is approved for. I am already very happy with my results after a single treatment, but would like to go back for at least 1 more additional shot of Kybella.

I now feel extremely comfortable wearing tighter fitting tops and showing off my arms and upper body silhouette. If you get Kybella, you just have to prepared to wait to see your results. It doesn’t happen overnight but as long as you’re patient, you’ll see them within a few months.

I highly recommend Dr. Brock Ridenour, MD, of Ridenour Plastic Surgery. I’ve known him for a long time and he’s a trusted doctor. I’d recommend him to anyone looking for cosmetic procedures in the Midwest area.
