Procedure review

I decided to get a rhinoplasty because I did not like the way my side profile looked. My nose was ok from the front but I hated the way it looked from the side. I cringed when people took photos of my face from the side. My nose seemed to put a weird shadow on my face whenever a picture was taken from the side. I hated it. I also had other family member who had a similar nose to me and as they aged, their noses got even more ugly. I didn't want that to happen to me.

I had my rhinoplasty done by Dr. Richard Rival in Toronto, ON. He is considered to be one of the best rhinoplasty surgeons in all of Canada and for this reason he is extremely busy. It took me 2 months before I was able to have a consultation with him. His first available surgery date was 2.5 months after my consultation. He's good but he's also very busy. Dr. Rival charges $300 for a consultation too, but he applies it towards your surgery.

At my consultation Dr. Rival was very sweet. He photoshopped photos of what my nose would potentially look like after surgery. He also told me that it might take up to a year for me to see the final results of my new nose. My entire consultation was around 20 minutes. The total cost of my rhinoplasty procedure was around $7,000 minus the $300 I paid for the consultation. I had to put a down payment of $500 to reserve my surgery date too.

The day of my surgery I arrived at the surgical center early in the morning. I was prepped and rolled into the operating room and put under general anesthesia. I did not feel anything during my rhinoplasty surgery. I was completely asleep.

My recovery took about two weeks (the amount of time I took off from work). I had watched a lot of videos of people who had rhinoplasties before having surgery, so I knew what to expect. Most people online made it seem like their rhinoplasty recovery was a breeze and their recovery time was nothing. Mine was a bit harsher than that. I had a terrible pain in the back of my throat. I couldn't eat any solid or soft foods and lived off liquid soup for two weeks. It even hurt to breathe! Pain killers did not seem to help either. I shined a flashlight into my mouth and noticed that the uvula (part in your throat that hangs down) was very swollen. I later learned that the tube used for general anesthesia likely scratched my uvula, causing it to swell, which resulted in the pain I experienced. Oddly though, my nose didn't hurt at all. It actually felt rather numb.

For the first week, I stayed in my house, watched movies and had to sleep with a few pillows under my head to stay upright. I wasn't supposed to sleep on my side during this time, because I was told it could cause my nose to heal slightly crooked (something to do with more blood flow to the side of your nose facing down).

Around 1.5 weeks into my healing process, I returned to Dr. Rival to have my cast removed. The cast removal was supposed to happen 1 week after surgery but Dr. Rival was too busy to see me. When the cast came off, my nose was clearly still very swollen. My nose tip looked like a big bubble. The area under my eyes was also bruised. Dr. Rival told me it would take a while for all of the swelling and bruising to go away and said my nose would get better each week. He reminded me on my way out that I should be careful not to hit my nose, which would damage the healing process and cause me to be more bruised and swollen.

It has been 3.5 years since my surgery I am extremely happy. I don't regret my nose surgery at all. I absolutely love the look of my new nose. It's so much better than it was before. I am extremely happy. I don’t regret it at all. I absolutely love the look of my new nose. It’s so much better than before. I now like the way I look in photos. My nose used to look more like a bubble and now it’s look much more sleek. My nose has also dropped down a bit over the past year. My breathing is great too.

If you were ask me if I would have another cosmetic procedure, it would be a hard question to answer. I really disliked my nose shape and I wanted to have something done for a long time. I'm all for cosmetic surgery if it helps you fix a feature you really hate. I also am a big believer in natural, subtle changes. I would never want to look like Joan Rivers and her daughter. I'm sure as I get older, other things will begin to bother me and I'll want to have more work done.

I recommend Dr. Rival and I have no regrets about getting my nose done. Good luck to you!
