I had a Tummy Tuck and This Was My Experience With The Procedure
Procedure specific satisfaction rating
This surgery for me, out of all the surgical procedures I have done, has been the most beneficial and changed my body the most. I had the most grief over excess skin on my stomach and now I wear belly shirts all the time. My stomach was so horrible, it looked like playdoh and it even made working out harder. When I would try to run, sometimes my stomach would slap around and it even got in the way of driving or bending with my midsection. I hated my stomach so much and wanted a flat stomach. The only way to fix that post-baby stomach is a tummy tuck in most cases because contrary to what most naysayers claim, it’s not just fat or laziness but your abdominal wall stomach muscles are literally stretched out and the skin is stretched to the point of no return. There is NO AMOUNT of exercise that is going to get rid of the loose skin or stretched out muscle.
I finally decided I had enough and found a great plastic surgeon for my tummy tuck surgery. My doctor was Dr. Ian Lonergan of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Delaware. I knew that Dr. Lonergan was going to do my tummy tuck when I had the first consultation with him, because even though he doesn’t talk very much, he is very competent and you can tell he knows what he is doing. He basically gave me the impression that he is a skilled surgeon and was very patient with me.
I had an abdominoplasty and brachioplasty at the same time. This surgery occurred December 29, 2014 at Christiana Care Hospital. I was 24 at the time of surgery. Altogether, these surgeries cost $12,000. I believe the tummy tuck cost alone was approximately $6,400. The surgery itself went well.
One thing I will say is that the abdominoplasty hurt less than the arm lift or brachioplasty did, which I wasn’t expecting. It just felt like tightness and pressure really. It felt like someone literally sewed me up like a rag doll. Something interesting was that it acted as a pseudo lap band surgery, because I couldn’t eat much at all afterwards. My stomach has been sort of compressed to where now I still can’t eat as much as I used to because it will literally feel like someone is ripping my stomach open. So, this surgery will probably cause weight loss afterwards due to the change in your appetite. I also had a lot of post op pain but it was managed well with pain medication. In the end, my recovery time was only a few weeks.
A few months after the procedure, I could tell my skin was gone and my new tummy looked great. My abdominal area was much tighter and my waste size was now small. All in all, I cannot explain how much I love my new stomach now and it is so much better than what I had after I was pregnant. There was no way I was going to live the rest of my life with that hanging skin on my midsection. I look so good now and get compliments all the time. If I had to choose the one most important surgery I couldn’t live without, it would be my abdominoplasty. I had amazing results and I am extremely happy I had cosmetic surgery to fix my tummy. The only regret I have is I wish I did not wait such a long time to have this procedure.
