I Had a Tummy Tuck With Muscle Repair, Inner and Outer Thigh Liposuction and a BBL.
Procedure specific satisfaction rating
Hi, My name is Lakari, I'm 31 years old and had a tummy tuck with muscle repair, back and inner thigh liposuction and a BBL. I had my procedure on June 21, 2017, in the Dominican Republic. My doctor was Dr. Maikel J Ferreras.
After years of research, I finally headed to the Dominican Republic for my procedure. My original surgeon of choice was Dr. Tania Medina de Garcia, who was also located in the Dominican Republic, I paid her my $500 deposit back in November 2016, but a few months after that, I began to research Dr. Maikel J. Ferreras, as he specialized in plus size women like myself. I decided he was the best doctor for me, so I put a deposit down to hold the surgery date. I landed in the Dominican Republic on Monday June 19th, 2017, and the first thing I did was go to my recovery house to drop off my luggage and from there I went to meet with Dr. Ferreras. After we met I went and had my EKG done and blood drawn, but my labs were done about 5 mins away from his office and I was late having these things done, which meant I had to wait until the next morning to know if my hemoglobin levels were high enough to have the surgery. Because of this, I was a nervous wreck until I got a text the following morning letting me know that everything was fine and I was cleared to have surgery. I was so excited! I notified my family back home in the states and shared the great news. On June 20th, I did meet with Dr. Medina de Garcia and she only offered to perform liposuction. I respectfully declined her services. My meeting with Dr. Medina reconfirmed my choice to use Dr. Ferreras as my plastic surgeon.
I woke up at 5 am on the morning of my surgery, took a shower with Hibiclens, which is an antibacterial soap used prior to surgery, and after that I headed to Cecipler Surgical Center for my life changing surgery. I have always had low self-esteem about my body, especially after having weight loss surgery, but now I was finally having my life-changing surgery and this was such an important time for me. Unfortunately, when I arrived I was notified that my platelet count was elevated and I would have to have it rechecked, at no additional cost, so I did another CBC (Complete Blood Count) and was reassured by my surgeon that is normal to have elevated platelet count when your bloodwork is done right after you get off the airplane. The results finally came back and my platelets were fine but my hemoglobin levels had dropped and now I'm standing in my blue gown, my surgery was already paid for and I was told I had 2 options. I could either pay for a blood transfusion or reschedule so I decided to pay $150 for a blood transfusion which started immediately. After the blood transfusion, I found out that the surgery was back on and I was getting marked up by Dr.Ferreras for my tummy tuck, liposuction of the back and thighs with BBL surgery. There was no blue pill to calm my nerves, instead I was given something to help me relax through my IV while being rolled into the operating room. I was told by the anesthesiologist to think happy thoughts and that was it, that is all I remember before I was put under general anesthesia. I woke up during surgery and I was told they were closing my tummy and to relax, which I did, and of course they put me back to sleep.
I woke up in my room to my own personal nurse whom I hired. After being awake for ten minutes, I began to shiver and I was put under 3 blankets and a heating pad, but once the clinic nurse started my blood transfusion, halfway through I started to feel better, I was just very thirsty. During this time, I was super nervous about the blood I was receiving but they got the unit from The Red Cross which was a familiar name and that eased my worries. I went 27 hours without food and water and my first meal after surgery was soup and crackers. On the morning of 6/22 I was awakened by my nurse and told I had to walk, it was very painful, but after I felt awesome. At that point, my doctor cleared me to return to my recovery house, but two days later I returned to the hospital for dehydration, chest pain, and high blood pressure. I was kept overnight under close observation and I received fluids, blood pressure pills, and medication for my heart rate. I started feeling very discouraged.
I stayed in the Dominican for a total of 12 days, during my stay I received 8 massages which helped a lot. On day 9, they removed my drain and I was cleared to fly home, because in a 24-hour time frame less than 50ml came out of my drain. My flight home was great. I used the wheelchair services they had available -- I highly recommend it for anyone post op.
Since I've been home, I have been getting regular massages to improve my recovery time and have noticed positive daily changes in the physical appearance of my body. I have a love hate relationship with my Faja, which is like a girdle and used for liposuction patients, but I stay in it for 23hrs a day I am absolutely in love with my new body and it makes my heart smile when I look in a mirror. I have currently lost 6 inches off my waistline and it's still shrinking.
Cosmetic surgery changed my life for the better!
