I Personally Think SmileDirectClub is the Best Orthodontic Treatment Option on the Market...If You're an Ideal Candidate

Smile Direct Club
I had braces when I was 9 or 10 years old (I can't remember exactly when I had them). I wore those ugly metal braces only on my top teeth for 1-2 years, but I didn't mind them that much because I was so young and many of the other kids in my school also had them. I was also fortunate to never need braces on my lower teeth because they were naturally straight.
For many years after I got my braces off, my teeth remained perfectly straight. They did not shift at all and I had no crooked teeth. When I was around 20 years old, I started developing some small spaces in the front of my top teeth and visited a local orthodontist. He recommended I wear a retainer and it only cost a few hundred, so I went ahead and got it.
For the next 5 years, the retainer worked perfectly. I would wear it every night and it closed the gaps in my front teeth. Then, my retainer cracked. For a few months, I didn't wear anything but then I eventually got annoyed when the gaps in my front teeth started to reappear and I visited another orthodontist in a different area I was living in at the time. (I lived in New York during college and moved to Nashville in my early twenties) This orthodontist told me that the gap between my front two teeth could no longer be fixed with a retainer and recommended I get Invisalign for $5,500. For some tiny gaps in my teeth, that were previously fixed with a retainer for a few hundred dollars, I thought it was absurd that it was now going to cost $5,500! I decided to look for alternative options, because I felt like this particular doctor was trying to bilk me.
Like just about everyone else in this world, I started my research on Google. I searched for 'alternatives to braces.' It didn't take long to find SmileDirectClub. I checked out their site, read about how their process worked and then began searching for reviews of the product. Most of the reviews seemed favorable, so I decided to spring for the $95 home impression kit, which I paid for using a credit card. (I found a coupon online too, which slashed the price of the impression kit).
The dental impression kit arrived within a week and the process of making the impressions was pretty easy. They give you different sized plastic trays, gloves, a putty and a catalyst. The putty and catalyst are mixed and then put in the tray that fits your mouth. You bite down on the putty and stay in that position for 2.5 minutes. Then you put the trays in plastic bags and mail them back to SmileDirect.
The next step is SmileDirect has a dental professional review your impressions and pictures of your smile to figure out if you're a good candidate for their aligners. I was and I received the first set of my new aligners a few weeks later.
The first pair of aligners I put into my mouth didn't fit perfectly, so I had to file them down with the filer they give you. I didn't experience any pain though. The aligners were identical to the retainer I had worn years prior, so I was used to having a plastic mold in my mouth and they didn't make me uncomfortable. I also only wore an aligner on my top teeth, so I didn't suffer from the lisp some people get. To be perfectly honest, I didn't suffer any issues whatsoever from my aligners.
Over the next 6-7 months, the gaps in my teeth were corrected and I was left with perfectly straight teeth. I continued wearing aligners for a year and then I switched to a retainer that I only wore at night.
Wearing aligners every day and for virtually the entire day isn't fun and I would prefer not to wear them, but when compared to traditional braces, the choice is a no-brainer. SmileDirect makes the entire process easy. You don't have to go to frequent office visits, which saves you a ton of time. Also don't forget the cost -- SmileDirect is so much cheaper than Invisalign and is likely the exact same product.
If you were to ask me if I would use SmileDirectClub again, the answer would be absolutely. For the money and results, I don't think any other orthodontic treatment beats it. There are, however, individuals who SmileDirect will not work on (severe overbites, underbites and so forth). You need to be an ideal candidate for their treatment to work. I was very fortunate to have been a good candidate and I now have the teeth I want. SmileDirect is the way to go!
